Brad stood on the tips of his toes—Zack couldn’t explain why that was hot, but it was—and whispered in his ear, “There’s a little alcove next to the speaker. Come with me.”
Zack’s first reaction was to decline and explain his anti-PDA policy. His dick, however, responded with enthusiasm before he could form the words. It occurred to Zack that getting over a breakup by getting under someone else was a time-honored tradition. He’d even go so far as to call it healthy.
In lieu of an answer, Zack grabbed Brad by the hips and led him back. Brad followed eagerly, using his body to guide Zack to the right spot. It was only partially hidden, and there were other people nearby, but they all seemed too busy with their own salacious encounters to pay Brad and Zack any mind.
Brad dragged Zack into the shadows and then wrapped his arms around him. “Alone at last.”
Zack smiled. “Want to know something funny?”
“Of course.” Brad skimmed his lips along Zack’s neck.
“Earlier I decided I was going to kiss someone tonight.” Zack cupped Brad’s chin. “Think that’s likely to happen?”
Brad laughed, low and warm. “I’d say your chances are pretty good.” Then he pressed their mouths together.
It took Zack all of three second to realize something was wrong. Well, not wrong, per se, but off. He tried to melt into the kiss, but everything about it felt strange. Brad’s lips were soft to the point of being mushy. His stubble burned Zack’s skin, and Zack hated how far he had to bend down to kiss him.
Zack put on a good show—he wasn’t going to let a man walk away thinking he was a bad kisser—but by the end of it, whatever arousal he felt had been extinguished.
Eventually, Brad pulled away, looking dazed. “Wow, that was amazing.”
Zack managed an awkward smile. “Um, thanks. Hey, listen, the club’s going to close soon, and I need to find the girls I came with. Can I have your number?”
Zack was only asking to be polite, but Brad looked so thrilled that he immediately felt like an ass. Brad borrowed a pen from a waitress, wrote his number of Zack’s hand, and made him promise to call.
Zack lied through his teeth and walked away feeling worse than he had all day—and that was saying something. He found Alexa and Kira slow-dancing a ways away, looking utterly absorbed in each other. Not wanting to intrude, Zack hung back until the overhead lights turned on and they were brought back to reality.
“There you are,” Kira said when she spotted him. “How was your night?”
“It was great,” he lied again. “I kissed a guy.”
Alexa smacked him on the arm. “Atta boy. I knew you’d get right back on the horse.”
