That night had not been Frazer’s best. And the taxi driver had had Jack Johnson playing. She swallowed, ignoring the twist of nerves. “Well, yeah. I meant it.”
A smile was tugging at Cora’s lips.
Frazer clutched her hand tighter while the engines powered up and the flight attendants made weird motions with their arms and explained emergency procedures. One shot them a dirty look, ostensibly because they were clearly not paying an iota of attention.
Cora’s eyes shone with amusement. “You had a drunken realisation that you wanted to make banana pancakes? Sleep late without an alarm?”
Frazer grinned. “Did my singing proposition work?”
Cora returned the smile. “I was sad for my neighbour. She’s so deaf, she missed out.”
“Well, I’m nothing if not romantic. Are you saying yes?”
Cora nodded. “If it wasn’t just drunk Frazer suggesting it.”
“Nope, I’ve been thinking it over the last few days. I definitely meant that part where I said I wanted to have the same key.”
Really, she hadn’t intended to ask such a big question while intoxicated. But she’d come in humming silly romantic songs and Cora had been sprawled out in her bed, her hair a cloud and her hand stretched over the pillow Frazer normally used, as if reaching for her.
Twisting in her seat, Cora tugged Frazer toward her so they collided in an awkward kiss. “You really want to do it?”
“Yeah.” Especially if it got her kissed in such a distracting way. Cora’s lips were soft, and the pressure made her stop thinking about the fact that they were about to be in a metal tomb in the air.
That hideous pressure that indicated they were about to start going way too fast down the take-off strip moved them apart but didn’t stop Cora smiling.
“Did you want to stay at your place? Or mine? I mean, mine is kind of small. But the location is pretty decent.”
Yeah, they were definitely taking off now. Frazer leant back in her seat and squeezed her eyes shut as the plane taxied down, clutching Cora’s hand in a manner that was probably far too hard. Her heart thundered in her chest, and she just made out Cora’s voice.
“Try to answer, Frazer. It’ll help.”
Her eyes were still closed as the plane tilted and truly started to leave contact with the ground, in a way no person was supposed to. Frazer gave a sharp nod. “Uh, new place?”
“Great, that’s what I was hoping you’d say. Near the centre? The beach? A suburb?”
Frazer made a face and heard Cora’s soft chuckle.
“Okay.” Cora said. “Not the suburbs.”
“The beach?”
