She kicked herself into gear and made a beeline for the table, eyes focussed. Luck was on her side for once. She put the tray down with a clatter, a handful of chips already on its way to her mouth as she sunk into the terrible plastic chair.

Salt and grease covered her tastebuds in a wonderful explosion of calories and amazingness.

She shoved a few more into her mouth and chewed sloppily as she unwrapped her burger. It had probably been sitting there for hours, but at this point she didn’t care. If people weren’t sitting all around her, she’d give a happy wriggle. Food was bliss.

It was bliss because yes, she was starving and had been up all night. And also maybe because she was eating her feelings. But that was a perfectly normal thing to do. Every woman’s magazine around agreed that everyone did it sometimes.

And Frazer had a lot of feelings.

But none that were probably healthy.

Though her plan could be considered healthy.

When her phone vibrated, she swiped a message open without paying much attention to it, a handful of chips on their trip to her mouth, followed by another one.

Cora was looking for her. To talk about Jack.

That just made Frazer want to completely separate herself from Cora.

It didn’t matter if Frazer had feelings for her. Even if most of them were glazed with anger at the present time. It didn’t matter that Cora had stared at her all through the birth of Jack’s baby with a look that Frazer recognised from the night Cora had turned and ran. After what could have definitely been considered more than just mindless sex.

She punched the message closed. She would swing by Jack’s room and make sure nothing was going on after lunch, but she wouldn’t see Cora to do so.

Because whatever was going on between them was unhealthy. And it wasn’t something that could continue. Even if Cora was getting a divorce, she was still entangled with her husband. Still straight, probably. As far as Frazer knew, anyway.

Frazer licked tomato sauce off her thumb and didn’t even care that she looked completely unprofessional. Because she was being professional enough in her private life.

She was going to give up on Cora all together, even as a friend.

“Hey, Frazer.”

Of course it was her. Frazer’s head jolted up. “Cora. Hi.”

This was going to be truly fucking difficult when they ran a programme together. And when Cora looked stunning and tired, and all Frazer wanted to do was ask how she was.

“You, uh, have something…here.” Cora slid into the seat opposite Frazer and gestured to the general area of her own chin.

“Oh. Thanks.” Well, that was embarrassing. A swipe with her napkin revealed a bright streak of sauce. Frazer was the epitome of smooth.
