Frazer had half run there because the last thing Jack needed was to be dead-named while pushing out something the size of a small watermelon. Even if the admission team had used Jack as his name, the computer system would have automatically sent the old information to the ward.
“Thanks, Gavin.”
“So…that’s a complicated situation. How old is the kid? I haven’t seen h-him, yet.”
“Just gone eighteen two months ago. He hasn’t had the money yet to make the name change legally.” Frazer turned on a charming smile and batted her lashes at him, asking, “Can you make sure the rest of the staff is informed and that the name above his bed is changed?”
He crossed his arms. “And?”
Gavin always knew when there was more. “And make sure Trish the night nurse isn’t working his end of the ward tonight.”
The woman was notoriously conservative.
He huffed a laugh. “That’s a given. No problem. So you’re doing the delivery?”
“I’ve been with him for the last four months; he’s comfortable with me. I’m not going home until the bub is born. And I have to make the call to the adoption agency after the birth.”
“Ah…” Gavin bent over the computer, checking boxes and typing a note. “Just making sure everything’s checked so all the right people know it’s an adoption case.”
“You’re the best, Gav.”
“I know, lovely. This ward would be a mess without me.”
That was entirely too true. “That’s why I head-hunted you for maternity.”
He rolled his eyes. “That and you tried my cupcakes at a work Christmas party and wanted them for yourself.”
Also entirely too true.
“Don’t know what you’re talking about, Gavin. Are Deidre and Sam here?”
He winked. “You mean the two lovelies that are the exact opposite of Trish?”
“That’d be them.” She looked around to see if anyone was close by, then lowered her voice to add, “I’ve been making sure they’re always rostered on in case I wasn’t around for Jack’s birth.”
He gave a nod. “Got it. Deidre’s in a birth in room six and Sam is with a couple that are having some complications in room ten.”
“She okay?”
“The obstetrician has been called. Probably going to be a caesarean.”
“Which couple?”
“Ashley and Daniel Simmerman?”
Frazer sighed. “Ah, I saw them for a prenatal exam a few months back. She’s tiny.”
Gavin held his hands apart a foot. “Tiny, tiny. I have no idea how you women do what you do.”
“Eight years on this ward and you have no idea?”
He waved his hand at her. “Smartass, you know what I mean.”
With a chuckle, she walked towards Jack’s room, leaving Gavin behind to run the ward.
In room three, Jack sat on the bed, flushed but looking otherwise okay.
