Andy shuddered. “I’m so, so glad I’m never having children. Never. Never ever.”
Frazer snorted into her glass of bourbon and coke.
Rob’s eyes narrowed. “I will talk about trends in the market.”
“No!” Frazer held her hands up in surrender. “I’ll be good, sorry.”
Andy was still oddly ashen for someone with such dark skin. “I hate you, Frazer.” Without warning, she perked up, staring past Frazer’s shoulder. “Oh! Ten o’clock!”
Looking down at his watch, Rob rolled her eyes. “Honey, it’s only eight thirty.”
He “oofed” when Andy’s hand slapped his chest. His eyes widened. “Oh! Like, there’s a hottie at ten o’clock. Gotchya.”
Frazer started to turn to look when Andy grabbed her face, tugging it in her direction. “Be smooth, Frazer! Jeese.”
Her friends were far too dramatic for Frazer’s taste. As nonchalantly as possible, Frazer sipped her drink and glanced quickly as she turned around. Her eyes widened. Was that really her? She snorted into her drink. Spluttering, she turned back to her friends.
They were staring at her with deeply disappointed looks. Shaking her head, Andy said, “Yeah. That was smooth.”
“That’s Lauren.”
Rob and Andy both swayed opposite ways to look past Frazer. “Who?” Rob asked.
“A receptionist at work.”
“Oh.” Andy had a wicked smile on her face. “A work affair. That could be hot. And fun.”
An affair at work was neither of those things. Well, it had been, and it had been fun. It just hadn’t been with Lauren. And it was really only those things if you ignored all the guilt and the confusion that existed now.
“Work affairs sound fun,” Rob said. “Then they complicate everything.”
Frazer pointed her glass at him. “Exactly. Complicated. I don’t need that.” Because technically, she already had it.
Andy all but whined when she said, “But Frazer. She’s cute!”
Lauren was cute. And kind of boring. But maybe Frazer needed boring. And what had she realised the other day? That maybe all that thinking that her dates were boring people had actually been Frazer being boring.
She knocked back her entire drink and glanced at her phone. No messages. Nothing.
Not that she expected any.
“Wait!” Rob’s eyes, if possible, lit up even more. “The Lauren-you-went-on-a-date-with-Lauren? That Lauren?”
Andy woo’d far too loudly, and Rob was grinning almost maniacally.
Frazer’s glass hit the bar with a thud.
Andy and Rob’s faces lit up in matching delight as Frazer stood.
“You’re going to talk to her?” Andy asked. Her hand gripped Rob’s bicep. She whispered out of the corner of her mouth, “Rob! She’s going to talk to her!”
“I know! But sh! We don’t want to scare her off.” While giving a thumbs-up, he said in a normal voice, “You go, tiger!”
