With a shrug that was not comfortable in her position, Frazer opened her mouth and looked pointedly at Jemma, who promptly aimed and threw another piece. It bounced off Frazer’s forehead. Three more attempts and one landed, followed by Jemma fist-pumping and Frazer chewing happily.
“Yes, fine, it was weird. It’s why I thought the friendship thing should wait… It’s all a bit weird.”
“Maybe she’s in love with you.”
Frazer snorted.
“Or you are with her.”
Frazer snorted again. “No to both. It’s just…complicated.”
Complicated like Jemma saying Cora was in love with her setting off a swarm of feelings in Frazer’s stomach.
“Sure. Complicated.”
Frazer went back to Fish TV. “It is complicated. It should never have gotten to this point…”
“Probably not.” For a few minutes, there was only the sound of Jemma crunching on popcorn. Finally, Jemma said, “How was your date?”
Frazer watched Nemo nibble at some coral. He was so little. Almost cute. “It was okay.”
“Okay?”
“Yes. Okay. She was nice…”
“Nice?”
Frazer looked back at Jemma, who was staring at her expectantly. “Yeah, nice.”
“Our grandmother is nice, Frazer. Dinner can be nice. Your date should be something more than nice.”
“Our grandmother is nice after three wines, not the same thing.” They shared a knowing smirk. “I don’t know, Jem. She was nice. I wasn’t really feeling it, though.”
“Why?”
“She was a bit…boring.”
“That’s what you said about the last date.”
That was true. Maybe Frazer was the problem.
“Maybe, big sister, it’s you who’s boring.”
“Hey!” Frazer would have pouted but she didn’t want to look five. “Mean.”
Even if that was just where Frazer’s thought process had been going.
“Just putting it out there. Are you going to go on another date with her?”
God, no. “Probably.” Frazer said.
“Great. Give her a second chance.”
No. “Good idea.”

“You just ran off?”
“I didn’t run.”
Lisa was staring at her. Her eyes were piercing, and it was making Cora feel quite uncomfortable.
“Okay, Cora. You just…stalked off? Fled? Stormed? Then came here?”
Cora pulled a cushion against her stomach. “Fine. Yes.”
“Smooth.”
“I…had somewhere to be.”
“Cora, honey. We just established you came straight here. So we both know that’s a lie.”
“I missed you.” Cora smiled at her and batted her eyelashes.
Abruptly, Lisa laughed.
“What?”
“I’ve missed you is all.” Lisa said. “You’re a goof.”
On the tip of her tongue was the point that Cora hadn’t really gone anywhere when it occurred to her that that wasn’t what Lisa meant. “I know.”
“Good.” Lisa was still smiling at her, but gently. Like she would at a child she was cautious to not make cry. “So why did you flee?”
With a loud groan, Cora pulled the pillow against her face. After a second, she let it fall. “I honestly have no idea.”
