“Sex is never just sex, Frazer. Especially after three months of it all wrapped up in friendship.” Her fingers in the air making quotation marks were really unnecessary.
“It can be. It was.”
Jemma considered her for a moment. She thanked the waiter as he put down the food but just kept on staring at Frazer. “So you’re just going to go back to being friends?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”
“Don’t ‘okay’ me like that.” Frazer said. God, Jemma was infuriating.
“Okay.”
“Jemma!”
“Frazer!” Jemma mimicked Frazer’s tone.
Frazer stabbed at a piece of tomato and shoved it in her mouth.
“Was that supposed to be threatening?”
Sighing, Frazer let the fork clatter to the plate. “Yes.”
“Then you’re lucky you’re a midwife and not an assassin.” Jemma’s playful look faded a little. “Look. I just think this could get complicated. But if you want to be friends, then go. Try to be friends.”
Frazer did want to be friends. Eventually. “Maybe we’ll need some space first.”
“You think?”
“I really regret my sarcastic influence on you.”
“I don’t.” Jemma ripped apart a piece of bread. “So, when are you going to meet my lecturer?”
Frazer stared at her. “You two have gone public?”
“Not as such. But we’ve stopped pretending it’s a fling. Now that some time has passed, the naughty aspect has disappeared and we’ve realised we have to actually get to know each other.”
It took Jemma a moment to realise Frazer was staring at her. “What?” Jemma asked.
“When did you grow up and become mature?”
“Right around when you were doing the opposite. Oh my God.” Jemma gave her the same crooked grin Frazer always had whenever she was being a shithead. “Am I the big sister now?”
“You couldn’t handle the responsibility.”
“Oh, please. Look how I handled your crisis. I’m so the big sister. You’ve been demoted.”
“Oh shush, Miss Sleeps With Her Lecturer.”
“Alright, Miss Sleeps With Married Women.”
“Woman.”
“Like that makes a difference.”

There was a loud ticking in Doctor Massey’s office. Strangely, it wasn’t as loud as Cora’s heart, which she could hear thundering in her ears.
They’d redone the paperwork before going over the confidentiality thing again. And now there was silence, which Cora was having a hard time breaking.
“So.” Doctor Massey smiled. “What brings you here, Cora?”
Cora swallowed, then took a deep breath. “I think I want to get a divorce.”
“You think?” Doctor Massey had a way of keeping her voice completely neutral. No tone inflicted to say what she thought. All she had to do was ask a question, a simple one, and Cora felt tripped up.
“I know. I know I want to get a divorce.”
“What’s stopping you?”
