- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“Yes. ’Night.” He clicked off and then rolled over, pressing Brigid onto her back, allowing his voice to return to normal volume. “Now. Where were we?”

Brigid’s body went from interested to full-on aroused as Raider planted himself on top of her, even though he was so tense he felt like a ton of bricks. “All right,” she murmured, turning her head and giving him better access to her ear. Something was going on.
He kissed her loudly on the cheek and then wandered over to her ear. “We need to get in a slight argument, get quiet as we go to sleep, and then silently go out that window.” His voice was barely there.
She jerked, blinking rapidly. Out the window? They were two stories up. She swallowed, digging deep for courage. And trust. So she nodded.
“Good girl,” he whispered. “You can do this.”
Man, this was crazy. “Wait,” she said in her normal voice. What should they argue about? An idea struck her. “Isn’t there a guard at the door?”
“Yeah,” Raider said lazily. “So what? Let’s give him a show.”
She pushed at him. “I don’t give shows.” Was there still a bug somewhere? Could she be as silent as Raider when crossing the room?
“Come on, baby. Let’s show the man what I own,” Raider said.
She couldn’t help it. Even in character, she rolled her eyes. “You don’t own me. I bet that stupid blonde from the DC bar would give a show. She was a hooker, right?”
“Not a hooker. An accountant.” Raider’s chest shook against hers. Was he laughing? “That was just one night, and you and I weren’t engaged yet. I’ve been patient enough with you about it, and if you don’t knock it off, I will give you something to really regret.” His tone was actually a good imitation of a complete asshole with a hint of scary to it.
“Whatever.” She pushed him off her completely, and this time, he let her. “I’m going to sleep.”
“Fine,” Raider grumbled, moving loudly to the other side of the bed. “My head hurts, anyway. But baby, you’re giving it up in the morning, or you’re not going to like the result.”
She kicked him in the shin for good measure, even though he was acting. He deserved it. The bed shook for a moment as if he couldn’t help but laugh silently.
Waiting in quiet for about an hour was one of the hardest things she’d ever done. Raider gave a good impression of snoring for about twenty minutes, and even though her stomach hurt and her body had chilled from fear, an odd need to laugh rose in her. A hysterical one. So she bit it down and tried to remember that men with guns were right outside the door.
