  50. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Her head went back as an orgasm took her, and she cried out, her internal walls vibrating along his shaft. He let her ride out the waves, waiting until her body had stopped shaking before yanking her down and holding her in place. Fire raced down his spine to explode in his groin, and he came, sparks shooting behind his eyes.

She fell forward, her nose in his neck, her body heaving against his. A soft kiss to his neck nearly took him apart. She lifted up. “So. That was a tie. Ready for round two?”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Brigid smoothed down her leggings while sitting at a vacant desk in the hub of the HDD offices. Supposedly some expert on the Lassiter case was going to use the desk at some point.

Her body was pleasantly sore from the night before, and heat filled her cheeks as she sifted through the memories. When morning had finally arrived, they’d declared the evening a tie.

Raider, of course, had asked for a rematch at the first possible opportunity. Yet there had been a seriousness, a heaviness, to his movements that morning as he left to go shower for the day. When he’d kissed her, soft and sweet, there had been a hint of goodbye in his touch.

She shifted uncomfortably on the chair. Yeah, she liked him. A lot. But he wasn’t going to forgive her for lying to him. Or at least, for having kept secrets even though they’d become intimate. She felt like a jerk. But what else could she do?

Now he and Angus strategized in case room one after she’d given them very clear directions on how to find the correct computer, how to slip the USB in place while looking somewhere else, and finally what commands to type to get the download they needed. There were so many things that could go wrong.

At the moment, Malcolm and Nari were talking in Nari’s office. Wolfe sat across from Brigid, his humungous feet on his desk, his head back, and his eyes closed. Kat the kitten lay on one of his shoulders, snoring softly.

Brigid cleared her throat. Kat opened sleepy green and blue eyes. Wolfe didn’t move.

She did it again.

Wolfe sighed but kept his eyelids shut. “What?”

“Why are you so tired?” Brigid pushed away from the rough wood of the desk to keep her T-shirt from snagging.

Wolfe finally opened oddly focused brown eyes. “I tailed Dana all night while she met with sources for a story.” He held up a hand. “It’s our case, and I already told Force about what she’s found out. She’s concentrating on the senator angle, so backup from our unit was legitimate.”

Ha. Like Wolfe cared about legitimate backup. “She seems to have pretty good sources,” Brigid mused.
