- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
His body stopped aching and started humming. Her natural scent wafted toward him, and he straightened in his chair.
She sat between him and Wolfe, typing on her laptop with one hand while eating the Rice Krispies treat with the other. “I had to create a diagram, and I hope this helps.” Finishing the treat, she leaned over and gently prodded Force in the shoulder. “Angus? Let’s go over this, and then we’ll get you home.”
Force opened his eyes and focused on the screen without moving a muscle. “Thanks for the hard work today, Bridge.”
Her smile was cute. “Any time,” she said. A series of numbers came up first on the screen. “First of all, this is rough, but I’ve created false bank accounts in the Caymans that total a hundred million under several fake corporation names.” She swallowed. “There’s no real money there, but you can make a false transfer and not get caught for a day. Hopefully.”
She was the best, so Raider nodded. “I’ll make it work.”
“I hope so.” She typed more. Then a cloud chart came up on the screen. “I know this is goofy, but go with me here. The yellow clouds are known businesses of the Coonan organization, and the blue clouds are businesses that are or have been associated with Senator Tyson.”
Raider studied the intricate chart showing clouds connected to more clouds connected to even more. “I take it the green clouds are where the two connect?”
“Yes. For instance, the Coonans purchased several old apartment buildings in a run-down area of Johnstown, and at that time Tyson was a county commissioner who voted to rezone the area to commercial instead of residential. The Coonans then tore down the buildings and built businesses.” She sighed. “There are tons of examples here. Tyson went from being a lawyer to a hearing examiner to a county commissioner to a senator, and now he’s running for president.”
There were connections upon connections. “Anything illegal?” Raider asked.
She pursed her lip, her expression thoughtful. “I think there’s a comprehensive pattern here that nobody has added up before, and it doesn’t look good. But as for evidence of an actual crime? I haven’t found it yet.” She typed more, and a list of business names came up. “These are parent and foreign corporations that at one time had something to do with either organization but now are defunct. This one paid for Tyson’s college and law school tuition with a scholarship program and then just disappeared.” Her brow furrowed. “I’d love to tie it to the Coonans but haven’t been able to do so yet.”
Man, she was impressive. To do all of this in one day was amazing. “Nice job,” he murmured.
