“Charlotte is arriving in a few hours. She had commitments this morning. We have a dinner planned tonight at seven with a few important figureheads from the agency and pub house, and then the rest of the evening is yours. Tomorrow, your part doesn’t come into play until midafternoon. Charlotte is doing a signing and meet and greet in the morning from nine until twelve. She has a lunch thing going on that you don’t need to be part of, then afterward, we’ll send Sergio to escort you to the convention center for your event.”
“Sergio?”
“He’s your bodyguard. You two might get mobbed otherwise. There’s huge hype among readers to meet the boys behind the faces of Ender and Elliot Bridgestone. The announcement that you’ll be here went out two days ago. Madness, I tell you.”
There was a rap at the door, and Jay jumped up to receive the beers he’d ordered for us. He handed them off and sat back down again, referencing his notes and sipping his wine before continuing.
“Like I said before, play to the crowd. Entertain them with some mild cheek kissing and hand-holding or whatnot. No need to get explicit. Ignore the requests you’ll likely get for more. Only do what you feel is comfortable and acceptable. Sergio will have a car and driver to take you to the convention center. He’ll escort you to the private room we’ll be using next to the event room. We have a platform and podium set up for a question and answer segment. Again, only answer what you feel comfortable answering. I’m sure the questions will get ridiculous. Play them off or play it up. However you want is fine.
“You’ll have forty-five minutes of questions, and then we’ll do a meet and greet in the adjacent room and let people have their pictures taken with you. Sergio will have help with crowd control at this point. Listen to him, and do as he says. He’ll be regulating and restricting anyone who gets out of control. Are you following?”
Asher and I nodded.
“Good. Dinner tomorrow night is here at the hotel at seven, and your attendance is requested. There are more figureheads coming who want to meet you both. The whole thing should wrap up by eight thirty or nine-ish. After”—Jay lifted his gaze from the form he’d been referencing—“you can prepare for company. Dean and I will come find you in your room at ten. Is that enough time to get ready?”
“Sounds like a busy day.”
“With a rather exciting ending.”
“For me,” Asher said.
Jay smirked. “For all of us, I should think. Is ten okay?”
“Yeah. Just so you know, we aren’t into voyeurism,” Asher said. “If what you see turns you guys on, just remember to take those urges to your own room when the show’s over.”
