  54. Don't miss out!

She’s practically hugging a statue because I can’t move.

Then, the broad man lands a hand on my shoulder. “Detective Crawford told us what you did.”

“You saved our little girl,” the woman sobs into my jacket.

My shoulders settle as I lock eyes with Sierra on the other side of the car. She has a tight smile, biting her bottom lip in between her teeth.

When we go inside, Rafe puts us all in an office while he gets the report from Sierra. Her parents are adamant about pressing charges, but only until Rafe explains that it would require court time and more trauma for Sierra.

“What do you suggest?” Sierra asks with a level head.

“The information we got from him will ensure that he faces a good amount of jail time. Going against a prosecutor might dig up the time you spent here, no matter how well you thought it was covered up.” He glares at her parents with a disapproving glance that reminds me what a fucking badass Rafe is. Her mother fidgets in her seat.

“But he set her up. She wasn’t dealing.”

“It doesn’t matter,” Rafe adds. “She was arrested, and if they want to bring her back into this case, not only could her charges be dropped against him, but they could try to prove that she was involved with whoever is bypassing Hale’s current shipments.”

I know my place to stay quiet in the conversation because her parents would be quick to forget how I saved Sierra when they find out it was my supply she was paying back when she was arrested. She glances at me, and I can see her calculating.

“Hale would have good lawyers. What would happen if you offer him a plea for information on his supplier?”

“Sierra,” her mother scolds her.

Rafe gives her a subtle smirk. He sees how bright she is. “We could clean up a lot of the drugs off Wickett for good.”

“But what if he comes after her again? Who is going to protect her?”

Sierra looks at me. She has the same question in her eyes.

“I will,” I say, feeling the words come from somewhere deeper.

She smiles.

“We can issue a restraining order, and in all honesty, Mr. and Mrs. Pearson, Hale will have to disappear from Wickett for good. Once he outs his suppliers, he will have much bigger fish to fry than a vengeance with Logan or Sierra.”

“So, if I don’t press charges, you can use the information you have for a better chance of keeping the drugs off Wickett for good,” Sierra says proudly.

“I won’t persuade you either way, Ms. Pearson.”

I notice her parents getting uneasy behind her. This stuff makes them uncomfortable. They don’t do police stations and face-to-face. They handle their legal business behind closed doors with a checkbook instead of a hearing.

“You have to make me a promise,” Sierra says to Rafe.

He perks up his eyebrows as he waits for her demands.
