- Don't miss out!
I jump from my place on the ground and throw myself into Logan’s arms.
“Oh my God, are you hurt?” I scream against the skin of his neck. I don’t have the guts to look for myself. I just need to feel his body close to mine, his voice in my ear, his breath on my skin.
“I’m fine,” he answers as he squeezes me tighter. “It was just a graze. Are you okay?”
He pulls me away and looks at my body as if I have some sort of hidden bullet wound. “I’m fine,” I echo as I pull him back in for another hug. I still don’t know if he’s going to push me away after today, so I’m going to get as much of this nearness as I can.
“Do I need to call an ambulance?” Rafe asks.
Logan and I pull our bodies away and look at the cop who has Hale cuffed and leaning against the car even though he’s still unconscious.
“For him, maybe,” Logan answers.
“Nah. He’s gonna suffer through that concussion he’s got. I’m taking him in on intent to distribute.
“How did you know he was here?” Logan asks.
“Her parents called me about twenty minutes ago. Said her car was there, but she was missing. They suspected it had something to do with Wickett, and I figured he’d come here. They’re on their way now.”
My cheeks flush, thinking about my parents coming back to Wicked, seeing me in Logan’s arms, knowing that this trouble will follow him wherever he goes. They’ll never let me come back, and they’ll give me hell for it as long as they can. It only makes me squeeze his waist even tighter, whether he wants me to or not.
“I knew he’d come after me eventually, but I never thought he’d bring her into this,” Logan says as he squeezes my waist tighter again.
Rafe grimaces and rubs the thin layer of stubble along his chin and cheeks. Then, he glances up at something above us against the wall. “Yeah, why don’t we get him into the car before we start discussing that?”
I try to see what it is he’s looking at, but Logan distracts me with a look before I can see it. “I’ll bring her to the station,” he says to Rafe as the cop hoists a barely conscious Hale to his feet and shoves him in the back of the cop car.
“Sounds good,” Rafe answers. “Sure you don’t want a ride?”
“No, we need to talk.” His eyes stay trained on mine as he speaks.
A chill runs down my spine.
“I’ll get this towed,” Rafe calls as he passes Hale’s car. “Unless you want it.” He smiles and winks at Logan just before he disappears into his own patrol car.
A moment later, Logan has his hand on my lower back and is leading me back into the shop. Once we’re inside, I realize how shaken I am. He runs to the back and returns with a bottle of water and a wet washcloth that he uses to wipe my face slowly like I’m a child.
