I should call Adam and tell him that the champagne wasn’t delivered, or better yet the mansion was on fire, and I was needed to help battle the blaze. No, a man like Adam would offer to help extinguish a wildfire.

Damn.

This was a horrible idea.

From start to finish my plan sucked.

Last night I lay awake half the night berating myself for being one of those dumb twits who gets lost in a man’s sexiness and overlooks every warning sign he’s a dick. It sucked to admit it but that was what happened. I let Adam into my apartment as step one to instigate my plan but the moment he kissed me it was no longer about Elise or finding information that would help me find out what happened to her. It was about Adam.

The turnoff to Adam’s private road was right there.

I knew I should’ve kept going right on past it but I also knew I wasn’t going to.

What was wrong with me getting a few orgasms while in pursuit of justice?

I knew the answer to that, so I didn’t bother answering myself as I turned down the small road Adam lived on. Each house I passed was more beautiful than the last and they were all gorgeous, prime Broad Beach real estate. The monthly mortgages had to be close to what I made in six months working at the club and I made a decent living.

I found Adam’s address and pulled into his short driveway. I squinted at the two cars parked in front of the garage, one was Adam’s black BMW the other a silver Mercedes I’d never seen him drive.

My eyes went from the cars to the quaint porch and there he was just like I knew he would be. I took a moment to take him in, which was a bad idea. Adam in a suit was devastating, Adam dressed casually made him more approachable. Suit Adam I wanted to slowly undress. Casual Adam I wanted to savagely rip his clothes off.

Down, girl, your thighs are already in need of a swamp cooler or an ice pack.

With effort, I tore my eyes away from Adam and reached into the back seat to grab my purse while hoping he stocked washcloths in the guest bathrooms since I needed a whore’s bath before any fun times could commence—so I wasn’t paying attention, therefore I missed his approach.

But I did not miss his silky-smooth voice wrapping around me.

“Have any trouble finding me?”

Damn, he had a great voice.

“Not to point out the obvious, but I’m here, also I’m on time, so no, I didn’t have any trouble finding it.”

I figured Adam’s silence had to do with my smart-ass comeback not deserving a comment in return but when I straightened in my seat and looked up, I saw him smiling down at me. And by down I meant down—his forearms were resting on the jamb of my car door, and he was leaning forward. His body was shaking with contained laughter and his eyes were doing this sexy roaming over my face.
