Um. Wait. What?

I transferred my stare to Brooklyn to check her reaction to Sadie spilling her very private business. Not that I thought Sadie would speak out of turn maliciously but I just met these women.

“True story. That’s what happened,” Brooklyn said. “And I didn’t find him until he was working a case in Spokane which involved Letty’s sister.”

I glanced at Letty, and she picked up the conversation.

“My sister and I weren’t close, but she was my sister and I loved her. In her life, she did some pretty horrible things to me and to Brooklyn. Kiki’s death was tragic, but her sacrifice was not.”

All those stitches were threatening to tear back open at the sadness in Letty's tone.

“I’m sorry you lost her, but I'm especially sorry you weren’t close while she was alive.”

“I’ve made peace with it.” Letty held my eyes. There was lingering grief but there was something else shining—understanding, maybe compassion, hope.

The bell chimed, breaking the moment. Letty’s gaze broke away from mine and she looked over my shoulder.

“Well, damn it all to hell. The guys are here and we didn’t even get to the good stuff.”

Sadie slipped her hand from mine, turned in her chair, and the look on her face told me her husband had entered the store.

“You mean, you didn’t get to ask Sloane if she and Asher got busy at the club?” Brooklyn rushed out.

“Like you don’t want to know?” Letty shot back.

“We didn’t…or we kinda did, but not like that.”

Brooklyn’s eyes widened comically as she scooted to the edge of the couch. “What does that mean?”

“Why does it look like the four of you are up to no good?” a deep, masculine voice said from behind me.

“You’re interrupting,” Letty complained.

“Hey, baby.” I heard then a moment later I felt Asher’s lips on my head.

I tipped my head back and stared up at Asher’s upside-down smiling face.

“Hey.”

“Good day?”

One of the best.

“Yes.”

His smile got bigger, and I felt another stitch pull tight.

“Good. Ready to go to dinner?”

I righted my head and turned in my chair, noticing it was dark outside.

Holy crap, where had the day gone?

Coffee, shopping, and girl time. That was where it went, and what better way than to spend the day?

Once the shock of losing track of time wore off, I was shocked in an entirely different way. Standing next to Asher and Cole were two very handsome men. My eyes darted between them in an attempt to ascertain if I was seeing things. They were all similar in height and build. One had darker hair than the rest and one had crazy cool greenish brown eyes.

And it was the one with the cool eyes who broke the silence. “I heard you ate the last two muffins.”

That was also the deep voice I’d heard when the guys came in.

“Um…what?”

“My lemon poppyseed muffins.”
