From the doorway of his beautifully remodeled bedroom, Asher grinned. It wasn’t a sexy smile, it wasn’t huge, and it wasn’t the kind that crinkled the corner of his eyes. It was a soft, sweet grin full of promise that made my stomach somersault.

“Noted.”

What a difference fifteen minutes makes.

I was no longer looking forward to meeting Letty and Brooklyn. I was nervous as all get out, and with each step I took down the stairs, my nerves bunched tighter and tighter until I was two steps from the bottom and I came face-to-face with a raven-haired beauty. Then for some stupid reason, I panicked. Thankfully I didn’t dart back up the stairs, but I did freeze. So did she as she took me in with a vacant look.

I struggled to find something to break the silence, no words coming to me as the woman continued to stare. Then she smiled, which made her even more beautiful.

“Good, they fit!” she happily exclaimed. “Cole’s idea of help was to tell me you had a rocking body with great legs and big boobs. After a ten-minute conversation where he rattled off ten celebrities he thought you looked like, I realized talking to him was a waste of time. So I had to guess. I’m Letty by the way.”

I took a breath but before I could introduce myself she went on.

“Not that Cole wasn’t right, you totally have great legs, do you run? And I didn’t know what Cole’s definition of big boobs was and honestly, love the man like a brother but the topic of boobs wasn’t something I wanted to discuss so you’re stuck with a sports bra until we can get to the mall. Asher said you needed coffee so we’ll do that first, then hit Macy’s. After that, we’ll hang at my bookstore while Asher works.”

“Um…”

Asher had said there were fifteen coffee huts nearby and I wondered if Letty had hit them all on her way over.

“Zip it, Letty, you’re scaring her.”

Yes, Letty was scaring the pants off me.

I took in the other woman, who was obviously Brooklyn. She, too, was beautiful. Long brown hair with artfully placed blond streaks. If I was staying in Idaho, I was definitely asking her for the name of the salon she went to.

“Hi. I’m Brooklyn.”

“Nice to meet you, I’m Sloane.” I looked back at Letty, feeling the need to say something to her. “Nice to meet you, too, Letty. And thank you for braving a conversation with Cole about my sizes.” Then I asked her what I really wanted to know. “You own a bookstore?”

She gave me a megawatt smile and nodded. “Do you like to read?”

“Yes. But I mostly read romance.”

“Girlll,” she drawled. “You are in luck. My store is romance only. Every genre you can think of. What are you reading right now?”

My nerves started to recede. I could talk about books all day long.
