- MY DAD
- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Taylor shook her head. “I don't know. It seems like it’s personal, right? They always say that with murderers that, like, if there’s sixty stab wounds, that it’s personal. But I think this is sort of the internet version of a personal attack. I feel like it has Roberta written all over it.
“Teddi, of course, still thinks that you and I are friends pretending to be dating. And I feel like it makes sense to hold that line.” Taylor‘s phone lit up and the word “dad” was highlighted. “I have to take this.”
She got out of the bed and I missed her immediately. She wrapped her arms around her waist and answered the phone. I tried not to eavesdrop, but things were echoey in the big house. I heard her end of the conversation.
“Hey, Dad. I'm glad you like the pictures. And yes, you know the photographer. It’s Austin Burathon. He’s Teddi‘s brother.” She listened to the other end of the phone, but she was far enough away that I could not hear the other side. “Well, actually, he and I are not really dating. I needed a cover for someone that was giving me the business and he’s a friend. But no matter what, whomever I’m involved with is my business.”
Her voice was slightly higher, and I could tell she was gearing up for a fight. I knew Taylor was not as close with her father as I was with my family, and the chaos at their house highlighted the fact that things could be difficult. I truly believed that the state of their house was an obvious call for help. I couldn’t imagine that communication was fantastic between the two. My phone rang and Tinsley was on the other line. I knew it was serious because she was actually calling. My eavesdropping session on Taylor’s conversation ended when I picked up my phone.
“Who the hell is after you?”
I took a deep breath. “I'm not sure. I haven’t even seen what’s been going on. Stars Unlimited is going to send me screenshots of things before they turned off the comments. They are rightly concerned that there seems to be somebody with a vendetta against Taylor and me. The good news is, they are completely understanding of the fact my outfit choices tend to be outside the ‘normal’.”
Parker spoke up from the background, “Oh, these assholes need a new asshole. I’m happy to kick one in for them.” I stifled a chuckle knowing my friends accepted who I was and how I dressed.
Tinsley seemed to walk away from the angry Parker because his voice faded. “How is Taylor doing?”
“She’s talking to Mr. Boland right now and the conversation isn't going smoothly.”
