I scan quickly and farther down, way farther down, I see Akari’s group, TeenValentine, with a measly .03 percent. I toss the magazine to Sumin. It may seem like just a silly fan poll, but the agencies take these things seriously. Besides Girls Forever’s runaway win, DB also represents eight of the other groups in the top ten. JVC, Akari’s agency, has only four, and they’re all in the lower half of the rankings. I’m sure things are going to be tense over there for a few days. I wish I could send a text of support to Akari now, but our friendship has dissolved so completely over the past five years that I don’t even have her current number.

“ ‘I love Girls Forever because Lizzie’s dance breaks are always next-level, says Clare of Melbourne,’ ” Sumin reads aloud from the article. “ ‘She’s totally my bias wrecker. Sorry, Eunji!’ ”

Lizzie grins as Eunji elbows her in the ribs. “Don’t worry, Eunj, everyone’s still saying how hot you look,” she says, patting Eunji playfully on the butt.

“It’s the new silver hair,” Youngeun says as Eunji smiles softly. “You look so sexy, Khaleesi.”

Eunji came back from her Vogue photo shoot with gorgeous silvery platinum waves. I’ll admit, seeing her striking new look did give me a pang of jealousy over the shoot that should have been mine, but this morning’s interaction with Lizzie has reminded me that I need to be grateful for the opportunities I have been given—not feel sorry for myself for the ones I have not.

And while I’m still frustrated about my missing Balenciaga, this little dose of perspective (and a good night’s sleep in the Park Hyatt’s amazing body-temperature-regulating bamboo sheets) has me feeling a little better than I was when I first discovered it missing from my closet. I’ve realized that the girls don’t know how much the bag means to me. How could they? They think it’s just some freebie from a random fan, and it’s not like I ever told them anything different. Someone probably just borrowed it without asking. Wouldn’t be the first time. Still… I would like to know where it is… I clear my throat, trying to keep my voice level. “Hey guys? Have any of you seen my Balenciaga bag? It’s missing from my room.”

“You mean the blue one the fan sent you?” Ari says, fussing with the cap sleeves of her yellow minidress as she slips on a pair of sky-high Prada platforms. “I haven’t seen it.”
