Just pick a word—any word. It’s just a silly talk show, not some actual, life-defining moment. Besides, what kind of question is this? No one can describe herself in just one word. Actually, that’s a good point…
“Doesn’t follow silly rules,” I say, counting off each of the four words on my fingers. It’s ironic because, of all the girls in the group, I’m actually probably one of the biggest sticklers for the rules—never wanting to ruffle feathers or risk getting on DB’s bad side. But then I think of Carly’s advice in Paris, how it’s okay to break the rules every once in a while. It’s what makes the journey fun.
“Ohhh,” Daehyun says, wagging his finger at me. “Looks like we’ve got a rebel on our hands!”
I shrug my shoulders and smile innocently, as if to say Who, me? as Daehyun closes out the show.
Once the recording is done, the girls and I all walk back to the greenroom to grab our stuff before heading home to the villa. Everyone makes a beeline for her own bag: Youngeun fishes a simple herbal lip balm from her crossbody and reapplies, complaining that the studio lights always dry her out. Lizzie immediately pulls out her monogrammed compact mirror from her Chanel quilted bag to check how her makeup held up. Across the room, Jiyoon is gathering the contents of her overstuffed canvas tote, scooping up crumpled tissues and allergy pills that had spilled across the table. I think wryly to myself, someone should tell Ryu Daehyun that if he really wants to get to know the members of Girls Forever, he should just ask us what’s inside our bags. That’d certainly give him a more accurate picture than the “one word.”
And with that thought, I suddenly have an amazing idea.
For weeks, I’ve been trying to think of a hook, an angle, or a theme for my first fashion collection, but everything I’ve come up with so far—the seasons! The rainbow! Animals!—has felt unoriginal and played out. Then there’s the bigger question of what types of pieces the collection will be comprised of. Based on my conversations with Carly, I’ve determined that starting small with a limited accessory line would be the best way to ease my way into the industry. But that still leaves a big choice about what kind of accessory to focus on. Shoes? Sunglasses? Watches?
