There they were, a line of old ladies in their rocking chairs, rocking back and forth: Selma and Pauline and Penelope and Nell—and now Lauretta, who had paused in the telling of her story. With a belligerent glare, and gripping the arms of her chair, Nell cried: “Noli me tangere!” The others nodded their heads and took up the warning cry.

"Noli me tangere!"

"Noli me tangere!"

Turning her back on them Sarah went through the broad center hall, through the breezeway; and when she stepped out into the yard, she began to run, calling, “Floyd! Floyd! Where are you?”
