Kennedy opened the envelope and read the contents. “This muthafucka can’t be serious,” she yelped.
“What’s wrong?” Chaz asked.
“It’s from Brian. He’s suing me for custody of Jordan.”
He took the paper, skimmed it, and ripped it up. “Don’t worry about this. I’ll take care of it.”
Chaz dropped Kennedy off at home off then set off on a mission to find Brian. It didn’t take long, since Chaz knew that Brian had a strong gambling habit. They’d run into each other at several illegal gambling spots throughout the city. Chaz knew which place Brian favored, so he went there first. He saw Brian’s car parked right outside the building. Instead of going in and causing a big scene, Chaz parked across the street. He waited patiently for Brian to come out.
A few hours later Brian walked out in a bit of a pissy mood, having lost a lot of money on the card table. Chaz got out the car. Crossing the street, he yelled, “Aye, my man, I need to holla at you.”
“Oh shit,” Brian chuckled. “Did wifey send you to get tough with me?”
“My wife didn’t send me nowhere. I came to tell you that you need to dead that custody bullshit right now.”
“Who gon’ make me?”
“I don’t believe you want to go there, my dude,” Chaz shot back.
“Man, please.” Brian waved his hand at Chaz, dismissing him. “You think I’m frightened by a lil’ fuck-ass rapper?”
“Muthafucka, you better check my résumé.”
“I already did, and if I must say, I’m highly unim-pressed.”
“Foolish niggas never are,” Chaz responded. “I don’t have time to trade lines with you. Just drop the case ’cause you can’t win. You already know my paper is long. I got the best lawyers that money can buy. If you choose to pursue this, we’ll win, and there will be consequences. The same goes for if you keep toying with my son’s feelings.”
“Jordan is my blood—that makes him my son!” Brian shouted.
“Nigga, please, you don’t deserve the right to claim him ever. Like I said, my man, end it now, or I might just put in a call to your connect that you’re getting all that good raw from. After all, he is my man.” Chaz smirked. “He tells me that you been getting sloppy with the money lately, trickin’ on bitches and gambling too much. Says he’s looking for a reason to cut you off before you fuck up some real paper, and if I just say the word, you dead on any work. Because of my résumé that you’re so unimpressed by, I can call in favors like that.”
