Knowing it could only be Kennedy, he sat up promptly. When she strolled through the living room, he asked, “Where you been?”
Totally ignoring him, with her lips pursed and nose in the air, Kennedy walked on toward their bedroom.
Oh, she trippin’ hard, like she didn’t hear me. Chaz jumped up and followed her. “Yo, I know you vexed wit’ me, but you still my wife. Answer me when I’m talking to you.”
“You can’t be serious.” Kennedy rolled her eyes.
“I’m dead serious! Where da fuck you been, Kennedy? I mean, you could’ve at least answered your phone, if just to say, I’m aight, but I’m not fucking with you.”
Kennedy stared at him coldly as she undressed but didn’t mutter a word.
“So you just gon’ ignore me?”
Kennedy remained silent as she pulled out a pair of pajamas from her dresser drawer and slipped them on.
Chaz understood fully where she was coming from, so he said, “I know you’re hating me right now … but you at least owe me the right to know you’re okay, especially when you’re carrying our child.”
“If the baby is all you’re worried about, then worry no more, my man.” Kennedy smirked evilly as she climbed up into the middle of the king-sized bed.
“What you mean by that?”
“It means you don’t have to worry ’bout our baby anymore, ’cause our baby no longer exists.”
“No longer exists?” Chaz questioned, confounded by her statement. “What the fuck does that mean, Kennedy?”
“It means I had an abortion, Chaz.”
“I know you playing with me.” He almost laughed.
“Nah, I ain’t playing. I’m dead ass, my man.”
Chaz stared at her, stunned. He was frozen in denial. His heart crumbled. “You killed our baby? How the fuck could you do some foul shit like that?”
“How could you do the foul shit that you did?” Kennedy snapped, rolling her neck, “You done lost all rights to question anything I do. Go question your bum-ass baby mother.”
“I know this shit with Ria is messed up, and it’s hurting you, but you’re dead wrong for aborting the baby. Our baby. My baby.”
“So the fuck what—I had an abortion. You got another baby on the way with your broke-down loser baby mother. Obviously, you didn’t need one by your wife.” Kennedy pulled the covers back and stretched out, her back to him.
Chaz stood in silence, looking at her, and anger began to consume his body. He yanked the covers off Kennedy and snatched her out of the bed by her neck, tossing her onto the floor. “Get the fuck out of my bed,” he yelled. “Get up out my house, yo. You got me fucked up if you think you gonna stay here and you done killed my seed.” Chaz began pulling her clothes from the dresser drawers and throwing them at her. He went into her walk-in closet and began snatching her clothes off the racks.
Kennedy scrambled to her feet. “You want me to leave you, fuck-ass nigga?” she shouted, running up on him. Kennedy grabbed her clothes from his hands. “I’m not going nowhere, nigga. My name is on this mortgage too. You get the fuck out. You started all this shit. You fucked that dirty whore baby mama of yours and got her pregnant again. So you go be with her and ya ready-made family.”
