“Oh, now all of a sudden you mums a word, so I must be right. I tell you this, all that time you’re spending on so-called supporting Kisa … you need to be trying to work things out with your husband.”
“Auntie, you wouldn’t be screaming work it out if you knew what he did.”
“Whatever he did must not be all that bad. I don’t see you falling over yourself to file divorce papers.”
The house phone rang out, halting Kennedy’s response. “Answer that,” Karen told her while she continued to place clothes in the drawer.
Kennedy picked up the phone, “Hello?”
“Hey, Karen, this Brian. I was trying hard to get there, but I got tied up with some business.”
“No, muhfucka, it’s not Karen. This is Kennedy, and didn’t I tell your trifling ass from the fuckin’ door not to play with my son’s feelings?”
“Kennedy, don’t start breakin’ already, man. I got a lot going on.”
“Ain’t none of it more important than my son.” Kennedy stopped short when she heard a female voice in the background.
“Brian,” the voice said, “can you call housekeeping for some extra towels?”
At this point Kennedy was livid. “I know you ain’t laid up at a hotel with a bitch.”
“If I am? Who the fuck are you to say something?” Brian snapped. He was getting tired of what he deemed as Kennedy’s I-rule-the-world attitude. As far as he was concerned, she should’ve been happy that he even came into Jordan’s life.
Kennedy removed the phone from her ear and looked at it in disbelief. He done lost his mind. “Let me explain something to you, you fuck-ass nigga. I can say whatever I wanna say when my son’s feelings is involved.”
“Not to me you can’t.”
“Yes, the hell I can. Nigga, you ain’t nobody. You ain’t neva been shit, and you ain’t ever gon’ be shit, and since you wanna play games with my child then pop shit to me, you won’t see him again till I say so. When I think he’s old enough or mature enough to deal with your bullshit, that’s when you can have a relationship with him. I don’t care if that means you have to wait until he’s in his twenties.”
“You can’t do that. I can see him when I get ready. That’s my son too.”
“Watch me,” Kennedy spat. “You ain’t said nothing, bitch. I’ll take your evil ass to court.”
“For what?”
“Custody of my son,” Brian said, just to spite her, knowing that custody was the last thing he wanted.
