“He’s fine. His feelings are just hurt cause that good-for-nothing daddy of his just stood him up for the third time this week.”
“How come you didn’t call me the first time he didn’t show up?”
“The first two times he called saying he had to take care of some business. He promised Jordan that he would pick him up this morning so that they could spend the whole day together. That nigga hasn’t showed up, and he won’t answer my calls.”
“I’m on my way.” Kennedy hung up the phone, furious. She tried calling Brian a few times herself, but of course he didn’t answer. After a quick shower Kennedy rushed to her aunt’s Bronx home. Jordan had been staying with Karen ever since Kennedy had had the abortion. She needed time to get her head together; besides, she didn’t want Jordan to know that she and Chaz were separated. Jordan didn’t mind staying with Karen. He actually loved it since her grandkids were always there.
The first thing Kennedy noticed as she approached her aunt’s building was Chaz’s car. What is he doing here? Kennedy parallel parked and got of her car just as Chaz was coming out of the building holding Jordan’s hand.
“Mommy!” Jordan yelled, and took off running toward Kennedy. He wrapped his little arms around her, hugging her tightly.
“Hi J,” Kennedy said, squeezing him back. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Mommy.”
She pulled out of his embrace and squatted down so that they were face-to-face, “Are you okay, sweetie?”
“Yes, Mommy.”
Kennedy noticed that Chaz had Jordan’s bag in his hand, “Where are you two going?” she asked Jordan while giving Chaz a cold stare.
“We’re going to Auntie Shorty’s house. You wanna come too, Mommy?”
“No not this time, sweetie.” She smiled.
Chaz opened the back door of his truck. “Come on, Jordan, we gotta go.”
Jordan looked back at Chaz. “Okay.” He turned back to Kennedy. “Bye, Mommy.”
Kennedy hugged him once more. “Bye, baby, I love you.”
“I love you too, Mommy,” he replied before skipping off to get in the truck. Silently, Chaz buckled Jordan in and closed the door, then proceeded to walk to the other side of the truck.
“So you just going to leave without saying anything to me?” Kennedy questioned. It was the first time that she’d seen him since they’d fought about the abortion three weeks earlier.
“I don’t have shit to say to you,” he replied, glaring at her callously.
“You betta have something to say to me, and you taking my son.”
“Whatever,” he replied, blowing her off. Chaz got in his truck and drove off, leaving Kennedy standing there.
