- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
What to say to that? Back then, she’d spent too many nights crying over the loss of Conrad, so she’d decided to stop dragging around the damaged part of herself, amputating it by ignoring his calls, his birthday cards, the occasional invitation to a Hollywood screening or party. Instead she’d thrown herself into her career and tried to forget. “I don’t know what to say.”
Conrad gathered her to him and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “You don’t have to say anything. Just think about it.”
Olivia nodded even though she had no clue how to feel. Last night she’d slept with Spencer, who she liked. A lot. The man was easy to be with and made her feel worthy of his attention. And now the man she’d always wanted had shoved his way back into her life. Two men to balance on top of Chase, her family, and the truth about Marley’s death. How had her life gotten so complicated?
Conrad looked at the cabin. “So this is it? Where’s Chase?”
“Everyone’s at the Mount Larsen Fall Festival. Are you staying the night or . . . ?”
“I thought I would if you have room.”
“We’ll have to switch up sleeping arrangements because Neve and Spencer Rome are staying here, too.”
“Spencer Rome is here?”
“Chase talked him and a few other friends into volunteering for the celebrity dunking booth. Most of the hotels and motels are full because of the festival, so staying here is likely your only option. Hope you don’t mind rustic.”
“I guess I should have called.”
He should have, but too late for that. “We can make do. Come on in.”
“I also have a legit reason to drive up. I need to talk to Chase about the role.”
“Yeah?”
“The production company is insisting she read for the part.”
“I thought it was an established offer and this whole thing was part of getting her insured.”
Conrad shrugged a shoulder. “If it were strictly up to me, yeah. But I have others I have to answer to, investors who are fronting money for production, and they have a problem with her history. A few of them want assurances, and they want to open it to other actresses. She’ll understand. It’s part of the business. Until there is ink on a contract, there are no guarantees.”
