- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
And now her father would be even more in her life, whether she acknowledged him or not.
“Well, I’m beat. I worked this morning, fought LA traffic, and that nine-hour drive is wearing on me. Tomorrow will be fun, but I’ll be on my feet fixing hair. Off to get my beauty sleep.” Neve rose and poured out her remaining tea. She rinsed her mug and set it aside, presumably for coffee the next morning.
“Did you bring some fun glitz for their hair?” Chase asked. She seemed relieved to quit the topic of Zeke.
Neve saluted. “As you wished, princess.”
Chase frowned at the moniker.
Neve’s gaze landed on Olivia. “Night, Liv. Night, princess.”
Chase took Neve’s chair. “Ugh. She’s already on my nerves.”
Olivia wondered if Neve and Chase might actually be cut from the same cloth. Mercurial, stubborn, smart, and talented, each woman had tripped out of the gate but also had great potential. They both took risks, which sometimes worked, sometimes didn’t. “Try to give her space. She’s come to help us, and that’s something.”
“She’s got her own reasons.” Chase dunked her tea bag into the hot water.
“True, but everyone needs a second or third or twentieth chance, right?”
“Maybe. So do you like Spencer?” Chase asked.
Olivia drew back. “What? No.”
“I saw the way you looked at him in the car that day.”
“So? He’s very handsome.”
“You’ve worked with lots of other handsome celebrities and athletes before. You shouldn’t be starstruck.” Chase dipped her marshmallowed hair into the hot tea and sucked it off.
“That’s disgusting.”
Chase blinked and shrugged a shoulder. “My hair is clean, and I can’t go to bed with sticky gunk in my hair. And you’re avoiding the question. If you have the hots for him, I can mention you’re into him. Spencer’s a giving guy, you know. Besides, he told me you were cute.”
“No. Absolutely not. I don’t have the hots for him. Wait, he said I was cute?”
“Yeah, he called you my cute therapist. Just so you know, Spence’s type is not bimbo. He likes the librarian type. He digs nerds.”
“I’m not a nerd.”
Chase giggled and sipped her tea, glancing away.
“Okay, maybe a little, but Spencer doesn’t even like me, remember? He essentially censured me for trying to take you back to Cedar Point. Trust me, Spencer Rome wants no part of me.”
Chase smiled. “He might. He could have a fetish for hard-ass jailers or something.”
“Well, thanks, Chase,” Olivia said.
“I’m joking. Like seriously joking. Just wanted you to know I could put in a word is all. I think he would be all over it.”
Olivia stood. “Do not. I’m not interested.”
Much.
Martha Courtney knocked her hand on the table. “You’re daydreaming again, Miss Han.”
