Chapters (50)
You? The most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen? How I love you. How you comfort me, all alone in this park.
White Fox tugs a strip of the skin in her mouth loose and lets the blood drip out of her mouth.
Vampyrrhic Boy approaches and puts one perfect finger on the slick of blood. Once he has cleaned it, the raw patch in her mouth heals over.
WHITE FOX (V.O.)
What did this mean? I did not know what to make of it. We slept comfortably that night, and many nights more. But one night, everything changed.
INT. LARGE TREE TRUNK IN PARK - NIGHT
The little creatures from the Man on the Moon’s house appear in the trunk. White Fox gets a better look at them: They are made of shadow but have clingy hands and feet, like rodents. They hiss and whisper to the Vampyrrhic Boy as White Fox sleeps with him in her arms.
He pulls away from White Fox and inches away in disgust.
White Fox awakes with a start: Usually the boy is kind to her until morning.
WHITE FOX
What is it?
VAMPYRRHIC BOY
You lied to me. You’ve ruined me! This blood will hurt me, not fix me. How could you give me what I wanted? I’m just a child—I don’t know what’s best.
WHITE FOX
I don’t know what to say.
VAMPYRRHIC BOY
(hissing)
Leave me!
But the Vampyrrhic Boy cannot stop himself.
As White Fox gathers her things, he lunges at her and takes for himself a piece of her bloody flesh.
White Fox runs from him, runs from the park. The creatures close in on the Vampyrrhic Boy.
WHITE FOX (V.O.)
I left the boy then. I don’t know what happened to him, but I miss him still. I can’t know whom he found next. I only wish he is not all alone with those terrible creatures.
INT. GRAND OLD HOME — NIGHT
WHITE FOX
I recognized the creatures, you know, from earlier in my journey.
But they had changed. When I ignored them, out of my own foolishness, they began to swarm those near me.
More tapping on the window outside. White Fox tenses up.
WHITE FOX (CONT’D)
Is it them? Oh God, have the creatures followed me here? I’ll have to face them. But I don’t know if I’m well enough yet …
Client 2 / Man on the Moon is distant. He clenches his fist, distracted.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
I know who this boy is. He’s nothing but an animal. I’ll kill him with my bare hands.
WHITE FOX
(glancing out the window)
Please. Please listen to me. Won’t you just listen to me? I must be quick.
White Fox begins to bleed from the mouth.
