You are smarter than most. You must know this moor well, as you say. Well, this is what happens to each girl after I finish her figurine. This little fox is yours.

White Fox’s face is pale with fear.

WHITE FOX (V.O.)

I knew that I was one of many he had thought he was loving and protecting. He only wished to possess us, in the most permanent way possible, with his cruel magic.

Lumberjack whittles.

LUMBERJACK

I’ll give you a head start. But soon I will finish the fox—it is only a matter of minutes. And now that you have recovered, it is time.

White Fox runs back to the cabin as fast as she can.

Lumberjack packs up and returns to the shack slowly, as if there’s nothing more natural in the world. He walks in a very ominous fashion, ax in hand.

White Fox reaches the shack and collects her things, glancing out the window.

She watches the Lumberjack approach.

WHITE FOX (V.O.)

All of a sudden I felt very ill. I felt I had no chance of escaping him. I had, after all, collapsed the last time I trekked across this moor.

When White Fox steps outside, she feels herself coughing up blood again.

The Lumberjack is close. He hurls his ax toward the house with a maniacal calm and it hits the wood with a THUD beside her. White Fox freezes.

LUMBERJACK

You’ll become sick again the moment you leave me. But if you remain here, you’ll live forever as a sweet little fox, with me and your many friends.

White Fox looks inside the open door of the house: the little wooden creatures have crowded the threshold while her back was turned. They’ve even cracked open the secret compartment to free their comrades.

They watch her with a mix of curiosity and dismay.

White Fox picks a CREATURE up and chucks one at the Lumberjack.

He grunts and picks up his creature, distressed. The creature is filthy.

The Lumberjack runs toward White Fox in anger.

White Fox pelts another couple of creatures at him, hitting him square on the head.

This only infuriates him further, but he is disoriented. He collects his creatures from the dirt.

White Fox abandons her bags and runs, BLOOD trickling from the side of her mouth.

The Lumberjack pursues her.

When he catches her, he does his worst.

But her hand closes around one of the creatures in the mud.

WHITE FOX (V.O.)

I prayed for help. I’d seen the creatures move when he willed them to. I hoped they would do the same for me, now. Even though I had done nothing for them.

White Fox takes the creature in her grip and smashes it into the Lumberjack’s eyes, where the creature takes hold with little wooden paws.

Lumberjack screams.

Torn and bruised, White Fox runs.
