Aaron turns to Martina and lays a hand on her shoulder. “You don’t have to be nervous. It’s going to be fine.” Lifting his dark eyes at me, he adds with a smirk, “Besides, Wren’s here with us.”
I force myself to breathe in, then busy myself looking for a pen in my bag even though I already put one in my front pocket.
It’s been three days since Callie’s birthday party—and Aaron and my little dance session. To say I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it would be an understatement. Whoever pictured sirens as females never danced with Aaron Scott-Perez. When I went to bed that night after the party, the feeling of his hands on my hips and his hardness on my lower back was all I could imagine, over and over again. Even my vibrator hasn’t been able to quench my thirst. Which made me realize that maybe my feelings toward him aren’t entirely neutral after all.
Which in turn made me realize I need to be even more careful with him.
I haven’t gone back to the farm since, but since Dennis got released from the hospital two days ago, Dr. Groban’s legal team asked to reschedule the meeting we missed due to Dennis’s illness. Today, we’re finally going to receive their response to our lawsuit.
“Hey, you doing okay?”
I only realize Aaron spoke to me when I lift my head and find him right there.
“Mm-hmm.”
He frowns. “Sure?”
I nod, and thank goodness, the door to the waiting room of the lawyer’s office opens at this exact moment. One of the two men I met two weeks ago—Mr. Ragsdale—comes out and says, “Hi, everyone. Are we ready to begin?” He must be in his early forties, with a clearly expensive gray suit and short brown hair.
I look to my clients, who stand up, not a hint of a smile on their faces. It almost feels weird to see Martina so expressionless. Without a word, Martina helps Dennis get up from his chair and enter the room.
This office is nothing like what I’m used to. While Silver & Prescott’s offices are sleek and modern, this one is full of heavy wooden furniture and darkly painted walls. The room Mr. Ragsdale leads us into contains a long conference table surrounded by eight large chairs, reminding me of a boardroom in an ancient university.
