I lick my lips. “I also learned that time didn’t have to be my enemy. Before, I was constantly wishing I could live in a world where time would stop. But I came to realize that the clock is not as scary when you’re by my side.”

I only realize I’ve started tearing up when I feel Aaron’s thumb on my cheek. For the last part of my vows, I step even closer so that I can wrap my arms around his neck. I don’t know if this is considered appropriate for a wedding, but right now, I couldn’t care less. This is a moment I need to share with him, as close as can be.

“I will always wish I could have more time with you, Aaron. No amount of years will ever be enough.” I swallow. “But even though our time will likely be cut short, I’ll cherish it with all I have. Because it was, and still is, everything.”

Aaron leans his forehead to mine, sniffling.

“I told you years ago that I wasn’t bitter about what life gave me, and I still believe that. Because it gave me you. And for a minute or a lifetime, it will always have been worth it.”

The moment I finish, Aaron’s lips are on mine, the kiss salty and bursting with love. He pulls away too fast for my liking.

“Too soon, I know,” he tells the officiant. “Sorry.”

The man only laughs knowingly.

Pulling away from me, Aaron rolls his shoulders back and exhales sharply. Then, he turns to the crowd and says, “Wow, tough act to follow.”

Our audience laughs as I smile at him.

When his attention comes back to me, all the seriousness returns to his face.

“Wren,” he starts, making me shiver with a single word. To my left, the sun is creating a warm, pink glow over the water, reflecting in Aaron’s whiskey-colored eyes. “I won’t be long, because if I started to say everything I love about you, we would be here until next week.”

I grin.

“I could also promise to love and cherish you until death do us part, but I assume this is a given. So, instead, I’ll make you another promise I think you need to hear.” He takes a step forward, our bodies two magnets.

Hands in mine, he murmurs, “I promise to remember everything.”

I close my eyes to prevent an avalanche of tears from falling.
