“It’s perfect,” she says as she continues studying it. “Absolutely perfect.” When she finally turns to me, her eyes are glistening. “You’re perfect.”
I can’t hide the feeling of rightness that goes through my body as I hear those words. For a time, I thought a moment like this one would never happen. And now here we are. With her in my arms, showing me her love is real. Every day, she tells me, and every day, it makes my heart soar.
“So I take it you think this will go well with my boss?”
With a straight face I’ve come to know so well over the past months, she says, “If he doesn’t like it, I think I’ll go there and tell him just what I think of his opinion.”
“Am I dreaming, or are you getting confrontational?” I squeeze her hips.
“Only for you.”
The muscles in my cheeks hurt from how much I’ve been smiling lately.
Wren’s attention returns to the computer, where I show her some Easter eggs I’ve planted throughout the game for only my loved ones to recognize and understand. After half an hour, the dogs leave the room, probably annoyed with our excited chatter.
Once we’ve finally gone over everything game related, I close the computer and bring her to our bed.
“So,” she says as she plays with a strand of my overly long hair. “What’s next?”
Lips pursed, I take a moment to think. What’s next? I didn’t even ask myself that question. I’ve been so overworked for the past year that I never took the time to think about what I’d want to do after finishing this project. Obviously, I’m still helping my family as much as I can when they need it, but with the farm taken care of and this design draft done, I have some time on my hands.
Without thinking about it, I say the first thing that pops into my head. “How about a vacation?”
Wren lifts her brows.
“Yes,” I say, more confidently. “A vacation. Away from here.”
Her eyes bulge. It brings me back to that time at the pub when we went out with Finn and he asked her whether she liked to travel. At the time, she said no, but I have a feeling this might’ve been related to everything I’m trying to make her see about herself and the world.
“I don’t know…” she starts.
