I take a moment to think about this before I answer. It’s not a simple yes or no question. It’s one that appears simple, yet is anything but.

Finally, I shake my head. “No, I don’t think I do. I’m not resentful of my life. It is what it is, and I made good with what I was handed, I think.”

Aaron stays silent for such a long time, I feel like he’s having some kind of blackout moment. But just as I’m about to ask him if he’s all right, he leans forward and kisses me. And again, I can’t resist kissing him back.

His tongue enters my mouth, slowly and purposefully, as he gently cups my head to bring me closer. I put a hand on his pecs, then slide it down, my nails barely scratching his skin. He groans.

He might now know ways to make me go out of my mind, but I’ve also found a thing or two that works for him.

Just as my hand reaches his navel under the covers and he groans again, a tongue that doesn’t feel nearly as good licks my chin, making me pull away. Molly isn’t only jumping on the bed now, apparently. She also does her best to keep me from getting what I want.

“Molly, down!” I say as I point toward the floor, unable to stop myself from laughing. She’s so cute, with her tail wagging like she just wants to cuddle too. I pet her head before ordering her down again.

“Perro maldito,” Aaron grunts as he runs a hand through his hair.

“What did you say?” I say with a poke of his chest.

He smirks. “Nothing.”

I follow the track of his eyes, which land on my naked breasts. It’s so strange, that I’m not uncomfortable one bit from being this exposed in front of him. Maybe it’s that I know he wouldn’t judge me, no matter what he was seeing. Or maybe it’s the fact that every look is filled with reverence.

“I wish I could understand you when you speak Spanish.”

His gaze lifts back to mine, twinkling. “Do you, now?”

My chin dips. “I never know whether you’re speaking behind my back when you talk with your family. Can you imagine the stress?”

Velvety laughter fills the room. “Don’t worry, cariño. We’ve never spoken bad of you.” With a lift of his hand, he adds, “Scout’s honor.”

“Still. I always want to know what’s going on.”

“Trust me, I know that.”

I swat him with the back of my hand, which makes him laugh.

When he’s recovered his cool, he says, “I could teach you, if you wanted.”

“You would?”

“Sure.”

I clap my hands once. “Okay, where do we start?”

“Now?”

I nod eagerly.

“Okay, then, how about the basics?” he says.
