“Until I ruined everything,” Cami says darkly, looking at the floor.

Arryn opens her mouth, but I shoot her a glare and she shuts it again quickly. I was afraid of this—that Cami would beat herself up over what happened. But I also know that, had I been in her shoes, if it had been my brother, I would have tried to run out to him, too.

“What’s done is done,” I say, not allowing her to dwell. “Hopefully I can recreate the part where we were still hidden from view.” My head gives a throb and I press my hand to it, wincing, before I add, “The thing is, I’m running out of steam. It’s getting harder for me to concentrate, and if I have to make us all invisible and keep these two hovering …” I trail off, but both Arryn and Cami understand what I’m saying.

“If you get tired enough that you lose control, that won’t help any of us,” Arryn says, and I nod in agreement.

Fatigue means mistakes. And we’re still close enough to Lengard that mistakes could be disastrous. Given how I’m feeling, I only trust myself to focus enough on our invisibility, not the levitation at the same time. It’s one or the other.

“So, we’ll just have to haul them ourselves,” Cami says. Her declaration is matter-of-fact enough to keep me from feeling like I’ve let them down. “There’s three of us—we can do it.”

Arryn rubs her chin. “Good thing this elevator opens right on Darling Harbour. It’s only a short walk to the ferry terminal. And it’s nowhere near as busy as Circular Quay, so the risk of being bumped and scaring the stuffing out of people isn’t as high.”

At least that’s one thing in our favor. But still, both Ward and the breakout are heavy, even with the three of us to share their weight.

“Are you sure you won’t try to take on my ability?” I ask Arryn. “Then you could hover them while I cloak us?”

She’s shaking her head before I even finish speaking. “I’ve never tried to control an ability as powerful as yours—I don’t even think I’d be able to control it. All I know is, that’s not the kind of thing I want to play around with when the stakes are so high.”
