- About Roslyn Sinclair
The moment broke. Vivian seemed to come back to herself with the slightest shake of her head. She cleared her throat. “Ah, I also wanted to tell you that we’ll be hiring a new intern, and I want you to take care of it.”
Jules crashed back down to earth. Well, this was new. She’d never been involved in the hiring process for anyone before, but out of all the new duties she’d taken up lately, this was hardly the weirdest. “Right. Where will they be working? Marcus says copywriting is understaffed.”
Vivian glared. “Does he?”
Oh no. Jules hadn’t mean to snitch. “Not in, like, a bad way! Just that it, uh, gives them a new challenge to rise to.”
Vivian rolled her eyes. “Brilliant save.”
Jules sighed. “So you didn’t mean copywriting?”
“No. I meant our office. It’s time you had some help.”
She looked blankly at Vivian. “Wait. I’m getting an intern?”
“A double major in English and communication and you still don’t get basic sentences?”
“Well—hey now.” Jules scowled, which only appeared to delight Vivian, judging by how her lips twitched again. “I didn’t know assistants got their own interns. Are you saying I need one?”
“Are you saying I don’t keep you busy enough?”
“I-I thought I was handling everything.” Did Vivian think Jules was slipping up somehow? If so, where? She’d been trying so hard. “Have there been problems?”
“Let’s just say your time could be better allocated. Any college senior can be trained to answer phones and scan PDFs. I have a larger project coming up, and I’ll need your help.”
“What is it?”
Vivian folded her arms. “I’ll tell you when it’s time to get started.”
This was starting to sound pretty exciting. Jules was getting her own personal intern so she could help Vivian with something important? Her heart leapt. “Understood. I’ll contact HR in the morning about posting an ad.”
Vivian lifted one shoulder to indicate she had zero interest in the details. “You do that. And clear my afternoon tomorrow from eleven to one. I’ll be eating lunch outside of the office.”
“Right,” Jules said, hoping for clarification. Last-minute changes always threw everybody into a panic—especially the people Vivian was canceling on. But no clarification was forthcoming.
Instead, Vivian gave her another long, considering stare. She finally said, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Tomorrow, when Jules would look for an intern. Which was so cool. She couldn’t help beaming at Vivian.
Vivian’s cheeks seemed to go a little pink. Must have been a trick of the low lighting.
“Yeah,” Jules said. “You will.”
