[question] I don’t know where was Sam because I don’t stop and think this. He was somewhere on the floor, I found out later, he was always over by the windows to help the girls, the whole time when he could have saved himself, that’s what he did, a lot of people down on the street, they saw him.
[question] I don’t know why he didn’t find us. I don’t know why I didn’t look for him. Just call out to him to come to us, to go with us. I don’t know why. I don’t know why my sister went to him away from the chance to go out. I can’t tell you the answers to these questions I have in my heart for all these years, don’t you think I am asking myself these questions too? No, it’s all right, I always got Kleenex right by me.
[question]. That’s right, now is when I see Morris Jacobs, and he’s got a waist wrapped around his face, so he looks like the robber that he is, and with all the smoke he can maybe breathe a little better, so I think, this is a smart man, and a very selfish man who keeps himself always comfortable, he can figure out how to save himself, so he is going to this other door, by the freight elevators for the stairway we aren’t supposed to use on weekends when the freight elevators aren’t running, and they only want us using the other stairway and the passenger elevator, and he has a key in his pocket, and I see him unlocking the door, and he goes in the door but then he closes it right behind him, as I am running toward the door as hard as I can go, which is, like I said, when I lose my sister’s hand. I try to open the door he just passed through, but at first it won’t open. I think to myself why is it sticking like this, but then I push so hard on it I could feel it open a little and do you know what? That little scheisskopf of a man, that Morris Jacobs is trying to close the door and lock it behind him, for what reason I don’t know, except maybe he isn’t thinking straight and it is a habit, or maybe he has an idea to control the fire from going in the stairs. So I push very hard one more time, and like something you would dream, that door flies open, and I go right through and fall down.
[question] Maybe that is how I hurt my ribs, you are right. I don’t know. So then I get up, and I see nobody, but I see so much flames and smoke that I think, well, you can’t go down the stairs, but maybe you can go up the stairs, so I go up the stairs, even if it doesn’t make any sense to go up, because I think how did they get out from the offices, maybe the roof, and when I go up, it’s empty, and I go by the pressing tables and there is nobody left.
