- THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING
She eventually pulled away and whispered to her sister, ‘I love you, you know.’
Wednesday 15 May
Second interviews between DC Emily Marlow and the staff of Morris & Wood, following the fire on Monday 13 May
Henrietta James, Senior Account Manager
Henrietta:I suppose they kept it pretty professional in the office – their mutual dislike for each other, that is – though you could tell there were things going on behind the scenes.
Marlow:What kind of things do you mean?
Henrietta:Well, they clearly didn’t trust each other’s motives. That’s why it all blew up at the party. One of them had found out something. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, of course. But you couldn’t help it. They were so loud.
Marlow:Who found out what – do you have any idea?
Henrietta:I can’t say for sure, but what started it was when Laura went running over the lawn, yelling at Mia that she was a liar. She was shouting that she knew. That’s what she kept saying: I know about you.
But, like I say, I couldn’t hear all of it.
Marlow:What did Mia do, when Laura was yelling at her?
Henrietta:She looked … well, she was furious, to be honest. But I mean, you can’t blame her, can you? It was embarrassing for everyone – it must have been horrific for her.
Marlow:You think she looked more cross than embarrassed?
Henrietta:Oh, I really can’t say. I mean I might be twisting everything all round here …
Marlow:Your loyalties appear to lie with Mia Anderson.
Henrietta:Of course; well, I don’t mean I was taking sides or anything. I really wasn’t. But Mia, well, it was all so out of the blue.
Marlow:Did you speak to either of them after their argument?
Henrietta:No. I went to look for Mia, but when I found her she was with Janie Wood and … well, I didn’t want to interrupt that.
But I still don’t see what the argument at the party has to do with the offices being set on fire?
Marlow:Maybe it doesn’t. Did you happen to notice how much both women had been drinking that night?
Henrietta:(laughs) Well, Laura, yes; I mean you couldn’t help but notice how much she’d put away. And with a baby at home and everything. It wasn’t right. She was in such a state. To be honest, I was surprised to see her in the office yesterday. I thought she might have been too embarrassed. Though she did come in very late.
Marlow:How did the argument end?
