  32. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
  33. Also by Amanda Foody

Lochmordra dwells in an unknown place deep within the Sea, rising to terrorize sailors or devastate coastal villages. His mouth is so large, he can swallow ships whole.

LUFTHUND

Wilderland: the Woods

Class: Mythic

Tricky to find and trickier to tame, as they are fiercely independent. Resembling large black wolves, they can grow up to six feet long and four feet tall. They can turn entirely into wind, like a rush of smoke billowing past, and their Lore can conjure storms and wind gusts. Absolutely magnificent! Also highly dangerous.

MADHUCHABEE

Wilderland: the Jungle

Class: Mythic

Unlike the more common, Trite-class Stingurs, Madhuchabees are exceptionally hard to find, as they can portal long distances with their spatial Lore. I would personally be honored to be stung by one.

MUIRMARÚ

Wilderland: the Sea, the Tundra

Class: Prime

These clever Beasts use sound Lore to send their cries hundreds of miles through the ocean. I’ve spent countless hours trying to decode their noises, but their language has proven too complex for human ears.

NATHERMARA

Wilderland: the Sea

Class: Mythic

A giant lamprey, capable of both water and electric Lore, that can only be found in the Sea’s darkest depths. One also happens to be my most cherished friend.

OYSTIX

Wilderland: the Sea

Class: Trite

Producers of beautiful pearls or perilous explosives? One may never know until opening its shell to discover what lies inside.

POLYPOP

Wilderland: the Sea

Class: Familiar

These jellyfish secrete a slimy film in the Winter for warmth, which they shed in the warmer seasons. The gummy skins that they leave behind make useful masks for breathing underwater. On rare occasion, a Polypop will be born with bells within its tentacles, which you may hear chime if ever a smack of Polypops passes overhead, using their wind Lore to swim through the sky.

REPTILLY

Wilderland: the Sea, the Tundra

Class: Trite

These tiny saltwater snakes shed their skin every day, which makes for an excellent, savory snack. I’ve also heard their exfoliating properties do wonders for pimples!

SCORMODDIN

Wilderland: the Desert

Class: Mythic

With over three hundred individual steel plates covering their bodies, these scorpion Beasts are almost impossible to wound. Their long sharp tails make excellent blades. One even won the gold medal in Menneset’s swordsmen competition for six years in a row.

SILBERWAL

Wilderland: the Sea

Class: Mythic

Though nicknamed a “whale dragon,” these Beasts are not dragons, as they do not have wings and cannot fly. But similar to dragons, they love anything shiny, and their underwater caves are often full of sunken treasure.

SLANNTRAMÓR

Wilderland: the Sea

Class: Mythic

The beautiful armor of these whales has led them to be hunted to near extinction. Anyone who wishes to bond with one must receive special permission from the High Keeper of the Sea.

SLEÁBEAK

Wilderland: the Sea, the Tundra

Class: Prime
