- About the Author
“He’s been swindling money from dear uncle Connor’s company.”
I smile a vindictive smile. “I wonder what Connor has to say about that?”
Jared matches my grin. “Me too.”
Hours later
I sit in Brooke’s art studio, nursing a scotch. I find myself sitting down here a lot. Where are you? I think as I finish off another glass. I have been through every nook and cranny of this room. Looked at all her art. Nothing. I still have not the slightest clue as to where she can be. I spent my afternoon blackmailing her cousin. I have everything I need to save her. Except her. I cannot save her if I cannot find her.
“Where are you, my love?” I ask aloud. A rush of anger courses through me. I am angry at her for leaving. How can she leave Cahal? How can she leave me? But I am mostly angry at myself. How can I not have seen how sick she was? Why hadn’t I told her I loved her? I throw my empty glass across the room, and it smashes against the wall. A large piece of it rolled on the ground onto a squeaky floorboard.
That is odd. This house is not old enough to have squeaky floorboards. I kick my booted food against the board. Hollow. It is hollow underneath.
Dropping to my knees, I quickly pry it up. There is a manila folder inside. I tear it open, hope making my heart pound. Inside is a flight confirmation letter and a document for the purchase of a cottage house in Ireland. Relief floods me.
My wife is in Ireland.

CHAPTER 26
We Are Going to Have It All
Landon
I step off the plane onto the sunny outdoor airport in Galway, Ireland. Time seems to be suspended while at the same time flying by. The flight was only six hours, but as my gut churned and twisted in anxiety, it seemed forever long. There is a nagging voice in the back of my mind asking the same question over and over. Is it too late? It seems impossible to block out the thought, no matter how much I try.
I head toward the car rentals immediately. Thankfully, I had the forethought to only bring a carry on, so I do not have to wait for anything. After receiving my keys for the rental, I hurry to the parking lot. I grew up in Galway, and while Brooke’s little cabin is technically in a small village right outside Galway, I know how to get there. It is a two-hour drive, but I can make it in an hour and twenty minutes if I speed the whole way and traffic allowed it.
