What is my character’s motivation for shooting the Polaroid photos? It’s there in the text, but I think it’s somewhat hidden, so you likely haven’t spelled it out enough for some readers, especially the I-just-want-to-know-what-happens reader. I’m not judging. Much. Anyway, let’s talk this out. So, I tell you on the day we met I was looking for proof, which sort of maybe played out in the most recent chapter, though the readers don’t know if that woman with the blue blob photo was some kind of supernatural entity that, for the sake of clarity, fine, we’ll call a vampire. Ergo, my motivation for taking all the photos, particularly if I’m the 1890s Mercy Brown—though that doesn’t yet make sense, as Mercy’s heart was removed and burnt, and hence, cured, yeah? Maybe I’m a different person, one to be revealed later in the NOVEL?—was that I was hunting to find someone else who was a vampire like me. Right? It fits the loneliness/loner/didn’t-fit-in theme of the book. You didn’t fit in, and neither did I, and we both desperately wanted to. Readers are suckers for that kind of story because deep down inside none of us believe we belong. We fear we are imposters doomed to a life of imposting. Sorry, I couldn’t resist aping your writing style.

Let’s go back to the first funeral, where I was “Kathleen Blanchet,” dead by all appearances. Hopefully, somehow, my mouth and eyes weren’t sewn up and my body not full of formaldehyde and the rest of the funerary chemicals as that would’ve made it, um, difficult for me to return from the grave, so, yeah, you probably don’t want to mention any of that in the NOVEL. So, I was there, in the coffin, because … I’d given up on my life-plus-extra-life? I was ready, if not for the big sleep, then a little one? THEN I found you, or you found me. As you carried my casket was when you first described yourself as growing weak and back-painy and fuzzy headed, and now we are to presume your assorted physical sufferings were because I had a sip of your soul/life/whatever. Also, I recognized in you a kindred spirit, someone equally alone, so I decided to postpone my dirt nap, return to the land of the living, punk out, and get a fuller feed on you, and … I don’t know yet and will have to read more of this NOVEL, I suppose.
