- About the Author
Ash released her. “Looks like we’re officially open for business.”
Kincaid clapped her hands together and let out a little squeal of delight. She was looking forward to the official grand opening this weekend, but she was even more excited about this very unofficial one. She hurried down the steps as the cars parked in the spaces at the side of the house.
Liv and Finn were the first out. Finn had his arm around Liv’s waist as they walked over, but Liv’s wide-eyed gaze was on the freshly painted farmhouse and all its holiday decorations. “Oh my God, Kincaid. This looks amazing!”
Kincaid bounced on her toes. “Right?” She’d banned her friends from coming by the house for the last month as the final renovations were completed. She wasn’t about to miss an opportunity for a big reveal. She felt like she was on one of those home improvement shows. She was just missing the big sign or tarp blocking the house to do the voilà. “No more haunted house.”
Liv came over and gave her a tight hug. “This is unbelievable, chica. I’m so freaking proud of you.”
Kincaid’s throat tightened, but she was not going to cry right now. This was a happy moment. She didn’t want to give the house tour with Alice Cooper mascara streaks down her face. “Thanks, sugar.”
More arms went around them as Taryn joined in and made it a group hug. “You did it, girl!”
The two women released Kincaid, and Rebecca and Wes walked up. Rebecca gave Kincaid a quick hug and then leaned back and shook her head. “This looks fantastic. Wow.”
Kincaid curtsied and smiled. “Thank you very much.”
Liv leaned into Finn, grinning her way. “We never had any doubt, you know?”
Kincaid snort-laughed. “Oh, hush your mouth, Olivia Arias. You thought I’d bought a demon portal.”
Liv lifted a finger. “But I knew if you survived the hell beasts, you would totally make this place gorgeous. Full confidence, I tell ya. Full confidence.”
Kincaid rolled her eyes, and affection welled up for her friends. Despite the teasing, she knew that they’d believed in her. Even if they thought she’d made a crazy decision, they’d rallied behind her. That was what friends did. They supported you in your crazy and held out their arms to catch you if it didn’t work out.
Shaw took Taryn’s hands and smiled Kincaid’s way. “The place really does look great. I’ve handed out flyers to everyone at the gym. I’ll be sending some people your way.”
“And we’ve been tucking those coupons for a discounted stay in with the meals at the food truck,” Wes added as he wrapped his arms around Rebecca from behind.
Kincaid pressed a hand over her heart. “You guys. You don’t have to—”
“We do.” Taryn reached out and squeezed her hand. “That’s what family does. We want to watch your dream come true.”
Ash stepped up behind Kincaid and put his hands on her shoulders. She leaned back in to him and smiled at all her friends. “It already has.”
