- About the Author
Ash pondered, briefly enjoying the image of Kincaid shooting electric shocks straight at the guy’s manhood. “Maybe looking a little crazy isn’t all that bad. But you’re right, bodily harm could get us in more trouble than we want.” He drummed his fingers on the table. Maybe they could… He lifted his head, an idea sparking. “You know what kind of vehicle he drives?”
She ran her fingertip around the rim of her wineglass, watching him carefully. “A truck, of course. One he’s very proud of. He made me throw out a soda because he doesn’t allow food or drinks inside.”
“A truck he loves.” Ash smiled a slow and deliberate smile and rested his chin in his hand. “Is that right?”
Kincaid’s eyes widened. “Ash.”
“KC.”
She sat up straighter. “We couldn’t.”
He cocked his head. “Couldn’t we, though?”
“Ash,” she repeated, but a sparkle had entered her eyes.
“It’s not like we don’t have prior experience. Or the means. Charlie’s truck is parked out back. He said I could use it whenever I needed it.” He checked his watch. “I’m thinking the Feed and Farm is still open. I bet they have some dog food for sale.”
Kincaid bit her lip, a smile forming. “We can’t. We’re not sixteen anymore. We’re more mature and past the petty-revenge phase.”
He tilted his head. “But are we? Are we really? The dude sabotaged your job and your house. I think he needs a little lesson in how to treat a woman.”
Her grin went wide, and she drained the rest of her wine. “You are a bad, bad beautiful genius of a man.”
He stood and grabbed her hand. “I learned from the best.”
Fifteen minutes later, they were in the aisles of the Feed and Farm, staring at the meager dog-food offerings. All the large bags had been sold during a buy-one, get-one-free sale according to Carl, the guy running the register. Ash crossed his arms. “Damn. This isn’t enough to even make a point. And cat food doesn’t have the same symbolic effect.”
Kincaid was frowning along with him, seemingly deep in thought. “There’s got to be something else.” After a moment, she lifted her head and got a devilish look on her face. “Hold on.”
She left the aisle and went through the door that led to the outdoor shopping area in search of her new idea. A few seconds later, she called out for him. “Ash, out here.”
Ash headed out to the fenced-in area that held the gardening supplies to find Kincaid grinning a sexy, evil grin. She clapped her hands together. “So. How committed to this revenge project are you?”
She looked so damn cute and excited that he wanted to pull her into his arms and kiss her. “What do you mean?”
She cocked her thumb to the left, indicating a large stack of bags. That was when the smell registered. “I’m saying we graduate to the next level. This won’t be pretty, but it will certainly make a very obvious point. And will be an absolute bitch to clean up.”
