  62. What’s next onyour reading list?

To all the early readers of this book in its various iterations: My husband, who reads everything I write and picks me up when I wander into his office halfway into writing a manuscript and collapse on the couch moaning that I have no idea where I’m going or where I’ve been. My parents, who I’m pretty sure I harassed to read it when it was like ten pages long and then again at ten pages, and then again at a hundred (you get the point). My aunts, Barbara and Kathy, who were kind enough to read a draft along the way. My sister, who reads all my stuff because I force her to (kidding…sorta). My cousin Sarah, who also is forced to read all my stuff. And all my friends who read it before it went to copy edits: Janet Geddis, Leslie Grumman, Jess Lorton, Galloway Allbright, Harper Glenn, Jennifer Sommersby, Jeff Bishop, Tayna Guerrero, Jenn Moffett, Alechia Dow, Shannon Takaoka, June Hur, Eva Gibson, and Suzanne Park.

To all my friends who are like family—I love you all. And thank you in particular to Anne Marie McGintee for letting me steal your last name for my book. May appreciates it.

To Joanne Kowit, Rhonda Steinberg, and Graham Lockett for putting up with all my school-policy-related questions (and to Graham—thank you for helping me settle on the correct 2020 terminology for barfing).

To my therapist. Without you, there wouldn’t be a book. Without you, I don’t think there would be much of anything I have now. (Therapy is really important, guys! Take care of your mental health!)

I know I already thanked some of the following people above, but they need to be thanked again, separate from their skills as early readers.

My parents—man. I keep telling myself that these won’t be sappy acknowledgments and then I get to this part of them, and it’s like…tears. I hear so many tales of people’s families not supporting their writing, and so I know how lucky I am, in so many ways, to have been born with you two as my parents. You’ve always encouraged me—from early days till now—to follow my dreams. Thank you for always answering my calls (even when it’s like the seventh one of the day). Thank you for bringing me up to question things and to think rationally. I could write a book-length thank-you note to you, but I don’t think I’m allowed to do that, so instead I will just say that I love you very, very much.

To my sibs and in-laws: Joel & Kate Lawson. Tori & Nick Gregorios, Shannon & JC Cameron, Kristen & Levi Solmose, and Joel & Joanne Kowit—I am a lucky woman to have you all in my life.
