Chapters (17)
An event has occurred. You have partially completed another requirement to begin the Vampire quest chain.
You have completed Monster Contract: Linnaeus’s Appetite but have also been ambushed by enemy players that have a quest to kill Linnaeus. If Linnaeus dies during their quest, you will lose 5 levels, and he will respawn but be inaccessible in the future as a contracted beast.
Yup, I’m never going to be able to forget this, Lucas thought as he gulped down the eye. He then readied his staff and began charging up Chain Lightning.
“You surprise me, Human,” Linnaeus laughed. “Even till the end, I had thought that you would never join me in a feast of flesh. I shall not let you down!” The primate pounded his chest with all four hands and took off into the sky.
The only real threat to the group at the moment was the rain of arrows, and Lucas risked peeking out from around the tree so as to get a good look at the enemy group. He wasn’t able to gather much information from the brief glimpse, but he did catch sight of a Mage carrying one of the more advanced Earth-type magic staves, which was better than Lucas’s own. Then, suddenly, Earthen Walls quickly began erecting themselves around the field, separating off each of the players.
What the hell? Lucas popped out from behind his tree and unleashed Chain Lightning on the nearest target. Unfortunately, that target had a shield, and all three of his bursts of Chain Lightning bounced off and scattered to the ground near the enemy, rendering the spell completely worthless.
Another arrow came soaring toward him and caught him in the shoulder. Crap! What the hell, Linnaeus?! Don’t tell me I ate that damn eyeball for nothing! Lucas watched the primate swoop toward him. He didn’t know what the blue beast was thinking, and he was slightly annoyed by the fact that Linnaeus was having to enter combat before being put to work at the manor.
Lucas wanted to provide some supporting fire, but he didn’t really know what was going on. He had positioned himself with his back against the tree, and one of the earthen barriers had sprung up to his left. He knew that there was at least one tank somewhere in the foliage behind him and there was at least one bow wielder that would snipe at him the second he showed himself. He also knew that somewhere there was an Earth-happy caster throwing up line-of-sight-blocking walls everywhere who would likely change to damage spells soon.
“Come now, friend. We have foes to kill!” Linnaeus exclaimed happily as he landed beside Lucas. “You’ve honored me, and now, I shall honor you. Afterward, we shall have even more food to feast upon!” An arrow struck the primate’s condor-sized wing, bouncing off and leaving behind little more than a small graze that didn’t even seem to dampen his jolly mood.
