“Only that your mom seems as worried as mine,” I say, walking into the room. “This better not stand in the way of you moving here permanently.”
There’s a knock on the door, and it’s Aubrey. “Um, Paul is looking for you, Hayley,” she says. “Your scene is soon.”
“I know. I just want to share something quickly.” I square my shoulders. “I have an idea about how we might get some clues.”
“Clues for what?” comes another voice. And then I realize—Amelia is standing behind Aubrey, that typical nosy look on her face. Ugh. I blew it.
“Clues for what?” Amelia asks again. “What are you guys talking about?”
Bad, bad move. Aubrey isn’t going to take no for an answer. Even worse, if we don’t tell her what we’re up to, she might spread untrue gossip.
I sigh. “We’re trying to figure out this ghost thing. We don’t think it’s a real ghost. We think it’s someone pretending to be a ghost to scare us away.”
Amelia’s eyes widen. “Who would do that?”
“We don’t know.” I turn to my friends. “But I was thinking—we should ask the guys at the security gate if they’ve seen anyone unfamiliar lurking around Silver Screen Studios. Like, say it is someone angry with us, someone one of us knows from somewhere else—maybe they could help identify the person.”
“Good thought,” Cody says.
“I want to help,” Amelia pipes up.
“No way,” I tell her. “This was just for us three. We don’t want to get you in trouble.”
Amelia crosses her arms. “Guess it doesn’t matter that I happen to be buddy-buddy with Timothy, then.”
Aubrey frowns. “Who’s Timothy?”
“Oh, you know,” Amelia says airily. “Only the head of gate security. He and I are both really into astrology. He’s an Aquarius too! We bonded. Now we’re besties.”
“And you think Timothy will give us information?” Cody sounds like he really, really hates that he has to ask this question.
“He’ll give me information,” Amelia corrects. “Don’t know about the rest of you.” He eyes Aubrey in particular. “He really doesn’t trust an Aries.”
Salmon saunters into the room and slinks around our legs. Amelia jerks away from him, as usual. I breathe out a sigh. There’s really no way around this, is there? “Fine, Amelia. But you say a word about this to anyone, and you’ll regret it.”
“Yes!” Amelia whoops.
Looks like Sadie’s little sister is joining the crew.
After everyone shoots their morning scenes, we have a break for lunch. We huddle outside Stage Five and head over to the studio’s head security gate. Paul walks out of the writer’s offices just then and notices all four of us—including Amelia—walking together. He smiles. “Nice to see you all getting along.”
If only he knew the truth.
