To the four big-time authors who listened to my insecurities and gave me advice for tackling the notoriously difficult second book. Jane Harper, particularly for the advice, ‘All this book needs to be is something you are proud of and something that supports your overall goals for the kind of author you want to be.’ Trent Dalton, particularly for the summary of your advice in, ‘What I’m trying to say, mate, is it really doesn’t matter because you’ve already lived the dream!! You did it!! The rest really is gravy!! So go for it with no second thoughts.’ Craig Silvey, particularly for the advice, ‘It’s the story that matters more than anything . . . listen to your authorial instincts.’ And Chris Hammer – thank you for reading The Deep and loving it enough to provide a cover quote!

Gabrielle Barber and the team at Agapé Hair Hobart, for having a copy of The Bluffs on the front desk of your salon and talking about it to patrons. Those moments of support have great power for me, and remind me why I love the reading community. Thanks for getting copies of my book into the hands of so many readers.

To my family, for being the best team I have, for the cheerleading and hyping, and for liking all the screenshots of reviews that I put in our FamJam group chat. Thanks especially to Dad who helped go through my manuscript for me when I had damaged my arms.

And finally, thank you, God, for the gifts you gave me, the people you surrounded me with, and that stubborn streak that wouldn’t let go.
