“It should be our guys,” I said. “Meg sent them and they should be here any moment now.”
As the cars approached, one of our men waved at us to indicate that it was indeed our guys. As they spilled out of the cars and hurried to take care of the injured, some of the others, who hadn’t sustained any serious injuries, were already getting ready to transfer the drugs from the trunks of the damaged cars.
“Arianna, you should go when the first car’s ready,” Brent said. “It’s unlikely someone will attack us now, and you can take a different route.”
I only gave him a brief nod.

Chapter 16
“I WANT TO KNOW WHAT this is as soon as possible,” I said to Petra, and she nodded. Hopefully, it wouldn’t take her too long to figure out what that drug was. “And be careful who you contact about it if you need some extra help. We don’t want anyone to get any ideas about stealing from us or selling the formula to someone else.”
“Understood,” she said, and I walked out of her office. Brent was waiting for me in the hallway, and his face was serious. His injury had turned out to be just a scrape, so it wouldn’t cause him any trouble.
“We need to talk,” he said, lowering his voice. “About a potential traitor.”
“Walk with me.” I started down the hallway and he fell in step with me. “Have you found any useful information?”
“Not really, but almost all of the men who survived yesterday’s attack will recover, so that’s some good news.”
I nodded. “But we could’ve avoided all that if someone hadn’t opened their mouth.” No one would’ve died if the Desaltis hadn’t known where to find us, and they wouldn’t have dared to attack us if they hadn’t been sure that we were going for the drug.
“I think the answer’s right in front of your nose,” he said, and I looked at him in surprise.
“What do you mean?”
“Seriously? You still can’t see it?” Annoyance crossed his features. “James. It could’ve been James.”
“Not again with that.” I’d thought we were past blaming James for everything, especially when it didn’t look like it was possible he could’ve done something.
“Was he with you the whole time when you got that brilliant idea to go to his house?” He eyed me carefully. “Was Meg really able to watch him all the time and make sure he didn’t use the opportunity to contact someone while he was in the tech room?”
“There was no way he contacted anyone. I’m sure of it.”
