“Why him?” Brent said through his teeth.
“Because we might need him. If Desmond set up any traps, or if we need to unlock a door that has a fingerprint and retina scanner, then he might be able to help.”
“And then you claim he’s not an Ezzati,” Brent said under his breath. “We actually have Desmond’s prints and...”
I lifted my finger up. “Yeah, I’m aware of that, but we might not have enough time to get all of that ready.”
“Alright.” Brent pressed his lips tightly together.
“How many men are we going to need for this?” Meg asked. “If we leave our shipments and stash houses unprotected, our enemies might use the opportunity to attack.”
“I don’t know. We need to figure out what route we’re going to take and how we’re going to sneak out of the city without putting all of our enemies on alert.” Somebody would definitely see us if we all went together.
“Felipe and I can hack into the traffic cameras and make sure they can’t track you through that,” Meg said.
Brent looked at me. “If you’re coming with us, then we’ll need guards for you too.”
“No, we won’t. Besides, if a spy spots us somehow, they’ll immediately know I’m going with you if a bunch of my guards are with me. It’ll be less suspicious if I just go as one of you.”
“I’m sure you know what I think about that,” he said, his eyes focused on mine, “so I’m not going to say anything.”
“Good.” I was seriously getting tired of his constant complaints, so maybe now he’d finally accept the new situation and go back to being the second-in-command that I needed. “Meg, were you able to pull up any images of the building where we’re supposed to go? Or of that area? There might be guards there.” Just because Desmond was dead, it didn’t mean he hadn’t paid them upfront or set up some kind of an anonymous payment system that slowly released the money to the guards.
“I have some images, but I’m not sure how recent they are. There’s not much in that area. It’s just a house, though. I suppose it has a reinforced basement and some kind of security. You’ll definitely have to take one of our techs in training with you in case there’s some kind of a sensitive keypad with a password that you can’t just detonate.”
“We have access to some of Desmond’s bank accounts, right?” I said.
“Yeah, but I didn’t find anything that might be related to this. Desmond had plenty of private accounts under different names and shell companies, so tracking down all of them and figuring out all the proxies he used would take me a lot of time, which I don’t have.”
