“Call me when you have something.” I flashed them both a smile and walked out of there.

“WHAT WERE YOU THINKING when you snuck off like that?” Brent asked as he took a seat on the sofa next to me as I was sipping a margarita.
“Snuck off? Please. I wanted to go out and check something, and I did.”
“With that guy.”
“You sound as if you were my father and I’d just gone out with a serial killer.”
“It’s worse. You went out with an Ezzati.” He curled his lip.
“Monti. He’s my husband, and I believe I already told you plenty of times that I’m not going to discuss this with you.”
“Arianna, why are you doing this? I know you got your revenge, but life isn’t just about that.”
“Exactly.”
He got to his feet. “Fine. Do whatever the hell you want, but remember I tried to warn you. That guy will turn your life upside down.”
I gulped down the rest of my drink and decided it was time to check up on Meg and James. Once I got to the tech room, Meg looked up at me with a bright smile on her face. James was standing next to her and leaning over her shoulder, which made me a little annoyed, except I couldn’t quite figure out why. I only wanted him to put some distance between them.
“I guess you figured out something,” I said.
“Yep!” Meg clapped her hands. “We know where that little x on the map really is. You’d never believe how we...”
“Okay, give me the short version. Where is it? Somewhere in our territory?” God, I was really hoping it was someplace we could reach easily, because if it turned out to be in the middle of the Desaltis’ territory, I was going to be really pissed off.
Meg’s smile vanished. “No. It’s not.”
“Then where is it?”
“Just outside the city.”
My eyebrows lifted in surprise. “No one’s zone? Really?”
“Yep.”
Well, that was good news. “That means we can go get it.”
“Yeah. Oh, and those messages we picked up... James figured them out.”
“Of course I did,” he said, straightening his back. “The messages are a little vague, probably because one of the senders got lazy, but they were talking about a new drug that could change the market and possibly drive you out of business if it got into their hands. They also wondered if you had it already, and Romeo Desalti or someone important mentioned he has a plan to figure that out. Didn’t give any details.”
“Then we have to act quickly. If there’s a drug out there just waiting to be taken and it has the potential to change everything, then we need to get it as soon as possible.”
