I opened the door and made my way into my room as I rubbed my hair with the towel. A pair of dark eyes lifted to me and I jumped. It took me a few moments until I realized I’d forgotten James was in my room and I’d just walked out in front of him without any clothes on. Fuck.

His lips were slightly parted, his eyes so intense that I could almost feel his gaze like a caress on my skin. Lowering my towel in front of me, I shot him a glare.

“What are you staring at?” I snapped. He’d been asleep when I returned here, but then again, it had been barely dawn and I’d gone directly to the shower because I loved my bathroom too much to give it up. I’d slept in one of the rooms upstairs, although the bed there was nowhere near as nice and soft as mine was. I’d have to remember to order a new one for that room. The bottle with vodka I’d left for James was empty on the floor.

“You,” he simply said, not even blinking. Un-fucking-believable. But a small smile stretched across my lips, because yeah, this was kind of funny.

“You’re still staring at me.” I quickly snatched a bathrobe from the closet, glancing over my shoulder at him, and slipped it on.

“You didn’t tell me to stop.”

I shook my head at him. A knock sounded on the door, and since I’d locked it, I punched in a code to open it, but I was careful to shield the keypad from James. It was my maid who’d brought breakfast for James and me, so I let her in. As she went to set up everything, I gathered some of my things and headed for the bathroom to change.

When I emerged, the maid was gone and James was sitting on the bed and staring at the floor, his eyes solemn. The food was on four foldable breakfast tables that were on the bed, just as I liked it. I’d have to figure out if I should take James with me somewhere else for his meals, because I was sure this wasn’t going to work out.

The food smelled delicious, so I immediately grabbed a piece of toast and settled myself on the bed.

I glanced at James, who crossed his arms and didn’t move any closer.

“Come here and eat something,” I said. There had to be something on at least one of these plates that he liked.

“I’m not hungry.”

“I wasn’t asking.”

His jaw was tense as he gave me an annoyed look, but then he finally moved closer and picked up one of the plates. “If you’re just going to keep me in here all the time, you might as well put a bullet in me and get it over with.”
