“I take care of the people I care about,” he said, holding out the cheese tray.

Dena hoped she was able to keep her expression normal. At least her mouth didn’t drop open. Care about? As in care about? What did that mean? Was he saying he was—

Friends, she told herself firmly. He liked her as a friend. They got along and had fun together and nothing more. She had to keep telling herself that. Besides, he was still mourning Adriana—he was incapable of anything other than simply hanging out. Whatever ridiculous fantasies she had, she needed to keep them to herself.

She nibbled on a couple of pieces of cheese and drank sparkling water. In what felt like five minutes, they were descending for their landing.

Once they were on the ground, Micah whisked her to a large black SUV, where a driver greeted them before heading into Seattle.

Dena was somewhat familiar with the city. She could get to 5th Avenue Theatre or the downtown Nordstrom or the university, but anywhere else was kind of vague for her, so she wasn’t sure exactly where the driver was taking them. Not that it mattered. She was determined to enjoy every second of her time with Micah.

Their vehicle pulled into a large parking lot in front of a—

She turned to him, instantly fighting tears. “You didn’t!”

He smiled at her. “I refuse to let some woman you don’t know ruin the amazing thing you’re doing. We’re here to get your mind back on what’s important.”

She got out of the SUV and stared at the large, brightly lit baby store. The huge windows were painted for the season with a big happy Santa and all eight reindeer. The mood was upbeat and welcoming, and Dena couldn’t wait to go inside.

She grabbed Micah’s hand. “You’re a good, good man, and I will remember this moment forever.”

“I’m glad. Now let’s go explore.”

Inside, Dena was immediately overwhelmed by the size of the place, along with all they carried. Furniture, clothes, toys, and the diaper area had boxes piled nearly to the ceiling. A display of large stuffed animals, all sporting Santa or elf costumes, stood by the entrance.

This, she thought, suddenly fighting tears. This represented the happy part of her decision. The reality that she was going to have a baby and that she and her child would be a family, no matter what.

Micah touched his finger to her chin, raising her face so their eyes met. “Better?”

“Yes. I’m having a baby, and that is nothing but a blessing. I’m going to remember that. I’m in a good place in my life, surrounded by people who love me. The decision was right when I made it, and it’s even more right now.”

“Good. Let’s go shop.”
